I hope you can get some relief. Which ER. I can come and visit while you wait! :) Hehe. It's the least I can do!
Love and Hugs!
The best place to go is Community General if you don't want to wait long. They don't have a pain management clinic though. Only Universtiy and St. Joes have them. If you go to Community I will drive over right now to meet you there and sit with you!

I hope they got you in quickly in the ER. Please speak to your dr. about going to a pain clinic. The doctors there are specifically trained to help you find the right medication(s) for your pain. Remember to not be a wallflower like I was at first. It's a good idea to make a chart of when your pain is worse, what you've used for pain control in the past, etc.. Just be upfront and don't downplay your level of pain. As women, we tend to feel like "it's something we just have to deal with". You have every right to be completely pain free, not just 1/2 pain free, but completely functioning as you would if this condition didn't plague you as it has. I made the mistake of going in to my pain dr. (for fear I would be put on something too strong) and told him that I wanted something with the least side effects and did not want any kind of patch medication. This was a mistake, because my pain has increased and I'm having to double up on my dosages (which means I'll run out before my next appt.) I'm such a dimwit sometimes! I have an abcess surgery on a tooth which never cleared up from the root canal over 10 weeks ago and I am wanting to go to the ER, but am going to hold on for one more day. The endodontist is supposed to give me something stronger after he removes the infected tissue on my gum. If not, I'll just scream!!!! I've not been off the couch and bed but 2 or 3 times this weekend. This is not living!!!! I'm so sick of this! I am taking 3 to 4 7.5/500 Lortab and 1 morphine capsule per day, but I still feel like I've not taken much of anything. The bad tooth is not helping the situation at all. Again, I hope your ER is faster than mine. I had to sit in it for over 5 hours with a painful gallbladder last year. It was crazy! I'll say prayers for you! I wish we all could have at least one day of pain free reprieve from this IC and other related conditons. Just one day!!!!! Please!!
Remember, you are your own best doctor, you know exactly what you feel and don't let any of the white coats tell you any different!
Much peace and prayers coming your way!
Dani

Thanks everyone for the great response. Also, Kara-I was at St. Joes! The ER visit did NOT go well. I have never hada problem before. But, when I used to go to this certain ER years ago (for kidney infections) it says in my chart that "I do not have IC". Well to say the least I had the most horrible doctor I have ever had-seriously. Now anyone with IC knows how uncomfortable pelvic exams are for us right? Well, that was the route he thought he should go, even though I told him I KNEW it was my IC! Well, I was at a 10 out of 10 on the pain scale-just hysterical and waited in this ER firsthand for 5 hours before I was even taken back. Well, they put an IV in my arm and never gave me anything for the pain! Then came in to do a pelvic on me!!!! Well, they did it, which I was also hysterical during and the doctor knew it. Then I demanded something for pain and he wasn't going to give me anything!!! My mother and I flipped out. This guy proceeded to tell me that in my chart it says that I "do not have IC" and told me that I looked more upset than in pain. OF COURSE I WAS UPSET and in PAIN!!!!!!!! He basically went on for about 15 min. with a lecture to my mom and I that I was acting like...get this..."AN INVALID" and should get my life straight!!!!!!! I WAS A MESS!!!! He FINALLY gave me some Fetanyal for pain (because we said we weren't leaving without some relief for me) which gave me some relief. It was and is the WORST EVER experience I have ever had with a doctor. Seriously guys it was emotionally damaging. I still can't get this experience out of my head and am so upset by this. No one should EVER have to be treated the way I was treated Saturday night. I hope none of you ever have to go through this. :cussing: :cussing: :cussing:

That doctor was a complete total jerk! Shouldn't even be a doctor I say. Are you going to complain to anyone about it? I would. I found when I went to the ER (which I gave up on last visit) is you don't have to do what they want you to do. I don't know how many times I went and each time they wanted to do the pap test and all. Told them no it didn't need to be done and it was too painful. They will put it down that you "refused" (I wonder why?) and you are trouble but better that then being in more pain. Is there another ER? Only two hospitals where I am and I am not thrilled with either one. That really gets me the way they treated you. Glad you told them you wouldn't leave without something for the pain. When people talk like I think they should have someone kick them in the certain area and see if they won't be begging for pain relief. I hope you get to feeling better and this doesn't upset you for to long. It was a terrifying experience. I'm sorry he put you through that. :grouphug:

How horrible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't know what I would have done if I had gone with you! Probably best that I did not go back with you! I would have flipped my lid and he doctor over my shoudler and then I would have said some reallly bad things. I am glad I did not meet you back in there becaue I have my Nerve Ablation on the 27th of November and I would have been kicked out!
I feel so bad that you were treated that way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am speechless. It's awful!
I am so sorry!

I am mortified, as an IC patient and ER nurse. Horrid. Call the pt rep and file a formal complaint. Seriously.

I'm sorry at the way you were treated , but I,m not surprised . I have been through the same thing many times at the ER and I know how uosetting and dehumanizing it is. I used to dread going because of how mean and cruel some doctors can be. Even if you don't have an ic diagnosis it shouldn't matter. IC is a very difficult disease to diagnose and the signs are not always visible even during a hydro-distention. If you are having severe pelvic pain or any pain you have the right to be treated. I am thinking of going back myself because I am in a lot of pain and I am no longer intimidated by them and nor do I let them treat me bad. I defend myself and my rights as a patient and file a complaint if necessary. I have an ic diagnosis and they still treat me like a drug seeker. Some doctors are less than human, but don't let them get to you. Go to a different ER if you have to and you will come across a decent doctor who is caring, and compassionate and will believe you. I would also recommend that you try and find a GP who may give you pain meds and ask them to fax a referral to a pain clinic. If the ER treats your pain they will only do so occassionally and then ask you to go to a pain clinic. I know how hurt you are emotionally and crushed but do not allow this horrible doctor to prevent you from getting your pain treated and don't allow yourself to suffer. There are doctors who will try to help. It may take a while to find them but you will.
