Hi, I am new to this website. My name is Kirstie and this is the first time i have wrtoe anything. Yesterday my doctor started me on bladder instillations. I have to go in twice a week to get this done. Does anybody else do this? and has it helped? I feel like nothing is helping I even took medical leave from college which sucks. This is very new to me so any help I would really appreciate. Also, what do you guys do when your having a flare?? I just want to make the pain go away!!!!! Thanks a lot

:welcome: to the IC Network family. You'll definitely find a lot of support and information here. The Patient Handbook has information about instillations. There are many different combinations being used for this procedure.
You'll also find the IC diet in the Handbook, and I suggest you begin that today. Most of us have at least some diet triggers so it's well worth the effort.
When I have a flare, my first remedy is to be sure I am drinking enough water to keep my urine dilute. Tums antacid tablets can also help. And I use a heat pad, which is my good friend. If I can sit down and put my feet up and watch a good movie or read a mystery novel, it helps occupy my mind so I don't think about the flare as much. I have pain medications on hand if I need them.
I hope the instillations will help.
Warm welcoming hugs,
Donna

Instillations are a common therapy for IC. I do mine at home, myself, so I don't have to go to the doc's every time I need one... many ICers do this because it can be a very effective therapy.
Give it a shot :) Also, check out the handbook Donna mentioned... it is a great reference for all things IC.
