Prosed is similar, but it was discontinued a few months ago. That's why I'm taking Urelle now. This whole thing with discontinued meds is getting out of hand!

I got my first prescription of Urised filled on 10/11/06....now I'm hearing that pharmacies are starting to discontinue this medication?

I have the same as most, five refills, 90 per prescription.

The Urised helps a lot. I just fear that if I do develop a kidney infection that the Urised will mask the symptoms or pain that you would typically feel with this type of infection/irritation.

To give you a little history about my condition and medications:
I've been on 5-6 different antibiotics for mostly UTI's in the last 7 months. I'm tired of taking antibiotics and I want to make sure that I'm truly experiencing a UTI/Bladder infection.

My Uro took a sample of my urine back on the 11th of Oct and sent it off for culture and it came back normal. I was experiencing some of the symptoms at that time, so now I'm starting to think that it's just IC. I've been treated by my OB/GYN previously for what was thought to be UTI's. I think because my white blood cell count was up was what has prompted a Clinic doctor and my OB/GYN to give me antibiotics, (macrobid, levoquin, bactrim - different times of course). Although at one point I was prescribed levoquin, and the doctor cultured it and came back and said that I needed to take macrobid as levoquin was resistant to this infection.

I also took an antibiotic Ketek for swollen glands underneath my tongue prescribed by an ENT. I started experiencing symptoms AGAIN of a UTI and when I talked to my Uro's Nurse she said that Ketek cures a lot of UTI's and that I shouldn't come in for my 30 day follow up as the antibiotic will mask the infection when they do the culture.

I finished the Ketek a week ago and here I am again. I started to feel better again, and now I just don't know. I'm just taking the Urised and we'll wait and see what happens!

I did a goggle search and I came across a couple of sites that said that the company that makes urised had some issues with the FDA. I called several drugstores in my area and I was told that prosed/ds is very much like urised and that you can still get it. Now to convince my doctor to give me a prescription for it. Urised really relaxed my pelvic floor like no other medication that I could take for that issue.

***Sorry, I just realized this is a fairly old post***

Grammy, I truly hope your doctor won't give you any problems prescribing Prosed DS. The med is actually used for people that have chronic UTIs, so when you see things about keeping your urine acidic, ignore that information since it pertains to UTI's. I am one of those patients that is very sensitive to meds and then the ones that work, my body gets immune too. Normally after a couple of months I am back at square one with trying to find a med that works. Pyridium plus was never an option for me because my side effects where much like having the flu, but Prosed DS absolutely changed everything around last summer and I pray every day that it will continue to work so well. Prosed DS has many of the same uses as Urelle. Some people have said they had retention on it, but for me it did the opposite. I can hold my bladder for hours and then when I finally get around to going to the bathroom, I pee at least 8 to 10 ounces which was never ever the case prior to Prosed. Before Prosed DS, I was in constant survey of where the bathrooms were because if I held it for even a few minutes sometimes, the spasms would act up and emptying was nearly impossible. For me the secret is drinking alot of water when I take the dosage and then drink about 8 ounces at least every hour while at work. Even drinking that much water, I find that going to the bathroom just once during a work day has become NORMAL and the best thing is no worrying about spasms then sitting with my heating pad until my muscle relaxer kicked in so that I could finally relax to pee. As with Urelle, your pee will be a lovely shade of blue, but again the more water I drink the lighter shade of blue it is.

I have no problems getting my Prosed DS prescription filled. My pharmacist has to order it in so it takes a couple of days, but the last few months, since she knows I have a monthly appt with my uro/gyno, she goes ahead and orders it in advance so it is in stock when I come in with my prescription. I had it filled June 2nd with no issues.

To answer another poster's question, Prosed is very similar to Urelle. For me it works better, but I only say that because I was given samples of Urelle at first. I had asked for Prosed DS and showed him the info I found on here about Prosed DS. Since he didn't have any samples, he gave me the Urelle. I have truly had great success with Prosed DS. It has actually allowed me to decrease my meds I have been on for years since it has stopped my spasms and I am able to empty my bladder without even thinking about it. I have even decreased my dosage for 4 a day to 2 a day. I just take them at night now. For all the years I had to be on a strict schedule with my meds, for the last 2 months, I have not needed to take any meds (even pain meds ) during the daytime. I don't think I have taken a pain med since December during the day. There are days when I get home from work, I may take half if I feel my bladder is a little more irritated than usual, normally after a hectic day. I truly feel that this has been the "miracle med" for me since I have tried so many combos through the years dealing with IC and I am finally as "normal" as I will ever be.

Oh yeah, I go to our local Super Target for my meds now and they are able to fill everything that my doctor prescribes. Even B&O supp which are still hard to find at times. That is another med that my pharmacist orders early for me so that I don't have to wait for it to come in. I use it maybe 2 or 3 times a week depending on my routine. Since I am feeling so much better, I find I am pushing myself as if I were still in my 20s, so as long as I keep my stress level and my energy level at a normal level, I am able to require even less of them than I have in years.

As everyone knows, we all react to meds differently. Some meds out there that work great for other ICers, are the ones that I just can't deal with the side effects, but with my current combo of meds which are decreasing pretty much at each of my monthly appts, I am living pretty much as close to remission as I can get. I keep hoping to get to no meds period, that is my goal, but if I stay on the meds I am on, that will be just fine as long as things keep going in a positive direction.

I use the generic for urelle called utira-c. I haven't had any problems with refills. Prosed at one time was discontinued. Then this year I was able to get it again. The biggest issue was the there was no generic for prosed and it cost 30.00 to fill. Utira-c only cost me 10.00 and is just as effective for me. I'm not sure what is going on with urelle itself. Just thought I'd pass this along. I save alot more money by using utira-c. At one time it was also called urimar-t but I don't know if that is still around. Hope this helps.
