explain flare ups

I was wandering if people with IC could explain how there flares start up,and what it feels like, hoping this will help a newby like me understand and know what to watch for.. then maybe i can catch it soon and treat it before my pain gets out of hand..ty so much ronda:angel:

When I have a flare, it sometimes hits suddenly and it's very painful right at the start --- other times it will announce itself with a slight increase in bladder awareness. In either case, I immediately increase my intake of water and take some Tums. If it seems to be getting worse, I go for the pain meds before it gets out of hand.

My flare ups start with lower back pain and if it is really bad I have bladder pain worse than my monthly cramps. I also usually have the urge to go to the bathroom more. The first thing I do is make sure I am getting enough water and I grab my heating pad and curl up in my favorite chair so that I can relax.
