Hi, everyone.

So, I'm scheduled for an in-office cystoscopy tomorrow: no hydro, only local anesthetic. It's my first one. Add to that, I'm on the 4th day of a flare, and I've been taking pyridium off & on since day 2. Does anyone know if pyridium effects the cysto? On the info sheet they gave me, it says medications don't interfere, but I'm worried because it makes my urine red, and I'm afraid the results will be messed up.

As I said before, this is my first cysto. My doc (former doc--I had to move) diagnosed me with IC, just based on symptoms. I'm pretty nervous about it, but my doc did set me up with a valium, so hopefully that will help and not give me any side effects. And with any luck, my flare won't be worse, or maybe it will be gone by tomorrow.

Thanks for listening. This forum has really helped me out when I'm down and hurt-y. It's amazing what so many of you have gone through and how well you seem to be coping; it's an inspiration.

I had a in office cysto. a few weeks ago.. it was an appointment i had for over 4 weeks..so i had plenty of time to worry and beleive me,, i am the worlds biggest chicken.. lol. I have a wonderful female urologist .. by the time i got in the exam room and got ready for the test i was scared to death.. even tears.. my dr walked in and tried to calm me down.. lol. She ask me if i had ever had a pap test.. well of course i have.. many , many over the years, well she said the cysto would feel like a pap test.. and she was so right !! let's just say it's not a day at the spa... but with the local , it's not bad at all. When it was over.. i was laughing at how scared i was.. and how easy it turned out to be.. So.. relax.. it's doesn't take but a few mintues.. and the pain not bad at all.. and this email comes from the WORLDS BIGGEST CHICKEN... LOL. let me know how it goes.. i think you will be very suprised.. .. oh. and i didn't have a valium .

good luck !!

Yup I had two cystos and both were easy and over quickly. It burns a little afterward. I have major urethral pain already so mine was probably a little more painful than if you don't have that. I don't think any local was used either. Why I'm not sure.

Okay, I just got back from the doctor.

It was a bit painful, but not too bad overall. The prognosis: I have an IC bladder. There were little bits/dots of red on my bladder wall. During the time between when the nurse prepped me and the doctor came in to do the cysto, I found I really had to pee (shouldn't have had that water after I woke up, maybe). When to doc was "in", she voided my bladder for me, before she started looking around. She said that I must have distended my bladder a bit, making it easier to see the bladder walls. Or something like that.

I don't know whether I'm happy or sad that I have an official diagnosis. It's great to know that I have what I & my docs suspected I have, but it's depressing to know that it's not just something they can give me a pill for and have it go away for ever.

Thanks for the support!
