Dear All,
Is it worth getting a food allergy test done? will this help in identifying which foods cause a flare up?

Probably not. I know there are some foods that cause IC pain, but no other symptoms. I'm allergic to tomatoes and they not only cause bladder pain, but also a skin rash.

I had food allergy testing done shortly after I got IC. I turned out to have a number of "borderline" allergies, which I had suspected, but which were not producing the full-blown hives I was getting with peanuts & peas. I tested allergic to peanuts, shellfish, fish, legumes, & tree nuts. By eliminating those foods entirely, I did feel better & had a very minor improvement in IC symptoms. It wasn't a huge improvement, and most of the foods that cause me to flare I am not allergic to. So, I don't know what it's worth to the average person. Just my experience.

I needed allerrgy testing for an upcoming surgery. Since my insurance was covering 100% the allergist tested for everything. He did know that IC was related to food senstitvities. My test showed no food sensitivities (did show nickel, formaldyhyde, and dogs). It is expensive if you do not have good insurance.
