Hello to everyone i was just dignosed last month on the 17th with Ic.In january of 2005. My daugther rushed me to the emergency room because i was in severe pain.Found out i was 5 weeks pregnant with a bad bladder infection.Went to my ob a few days later told her about the infection she said it was not a big concern and not to worry about it for nine months i was in constant pain.after my daughter was born in august of last year.i noticed my stomach was still swollen people starting asking me was i pregnant again. The pain had gotten so bad until i had to stop going to school i was going to be a LPN.in march of this year i went back to this doctor again told her my stomach was still swollen and still in pain she told me i was crazy and the pain was all in my mind.and my stomach was'nt swollen it was just fat.Went to three more doctors and they were saying the same thing.I've been in so much pain until i started having anxiety attacks. So i went to another doctor last month and finally found out what was wrong with me.I thank god for my mom and my daughter she is seventeen and they both have been so supportive in helping me cope with the disease and also with my 14 month old little girl.

I'm suprised that they just fluffed off the fact that you were in pain, with a bad bladder infection, as UTI's are a major cause of miscarriage or preterm labor. I'm sorry they treated you like that! My sister has fibroids, and some other issues with her ovaries, uterus, and she was in SUCH severe pain from pregnancy that they actually had to perform surgery. To have someone tell you that the pain is all in your head, and that you don't know your own body is infuriating!!

:welcome: to the IC Network. You'll find a lot of support and information here. The Patient Handbook at http://www.ic-network.com/handbook will get you started on learning about interstitial cystitis. You'll find the IC diet there, which I suggest you begin today.
Just remember that there are many treatment options available. It may take a while to find which one/s are most effective for you, but most of us do.
Warm healing thoughts,
Donna

I don't know why doctors will not listen until it becomes a major problem. I am guessing because they don't know what is going on, so instead of saying it, they use the excuse, it's all in your head.
I hope to God that no doctor will ever tell me it's all in my head again, because I probably would go off on that person. Oh yes, that will be in my head. Sorry it just makes me mad, when doctors don't listen.
I am glad you found one that listen to you and found the problem.
Hugs, Trishann

What a horrible way to be treated!! I am so sorry for that!
At least now you have your diagnosis, and a supportive mom and daughter -- that is important! You'll also find a lot of support and information here on the boards. Welcome :welcome:

I hope that things get better for you. I can totally relate to the dr thing. Every doctor I go to minimizes all of my symptoms. I want to scream to them that I have NEVER gone to the doctor for anything mild. If I am complaining about it then it is a big deal so figure out what the heck is going on and how to fix it!!!!
