okay, so i'm pretty nervous. yep.
i went to the doctor to find out that he is going to have to blow up my bladder AGAIN.
this time they are doing a biopsy?
i think that's where the cut pieces of my bladder and send it off for research.
does anyone know what they could find out doing a biopsy?
i dont see how it will help me but ive never had that done before.
i have, however, had the bladder blowing up thing.
notttt fun. hurt a lot afterwards and peeing was the worst.
i would purposely not drink because it was so bad. lol.
im sure i can deal with it though.
when they do the biopsy, is it going to hurt worse than if they just blew up my bladder?
im always afraid that the camera tube is going to be inserted with too much force and poke a hole in my bladder.
are these just stupid worries?

i have to decide the date for it and i want my mom and dad to be here when i do it so i will probably set it for dec. 17th or around that time.
ashley = nervous.
can anyone fill me in on this biopsy thing?

The biopsy is pretty common with IC. They take a small piece of tissue out of your bladder, and a pathologist looks to see if he can see any mast cells. These are cells that we all have in our skin, organs, etc... and when they get irritated, they release histamine. When it happens in your nose, you get nasal allergy symptoms; it is thought that when it happens in your bladder, you get increased IC symptoms.

Generally, ICers have an increased amount of these cells in the bladder.

Hi Ashley!
I wanted to say Hi b/c I am a younger IC patient too (24) and also to let you know that my understanding is biopsies are usually standard during bladder hydrodistentions. I had one perfomed during mine. I don't think it adds any extra time or pain to recovery. My Hydro was not successfull in stopping pain or symptoms, but many women here have had great success with it. Wishing you a speedy recovery and a nice long respite this time around!

Hi,

why is your doc doing the biopsy? Does he want to change the medication? I read about 70% of IC patient have increased mastcells. But if they don't find them,it doesn't proof that you haven't got them. And it doesn't mean that your IC will get worse or will not get worse. They didn't find mastcells in my biospsy, but the doc back then just told me, they could be there or not, they might have found some if they took a different sample.....

I would aks the doc about the purpose and the consequences for the therapy and then I would decide, if this is usefull or not....
