Deborah cannot access the computer at this time but is going into her first Anesthesiologist Nerve Location "Block".
The Anesthesiologist will try to locate this nerve in hopes to free her from the excrutiating pain she has developed in regaurd to her IC.
She will go in on March 9, 2003 and I want to wish her only the best of luck and a hopeful outcome so she can be free from her agony, all of you who know this woe, I please ask you to pray for her, she is a strong and great lady who needs a break! Her warm heart that has given so much needs your prayers for the optimal outcome we all so hope for with this disease.
May the Doctors have the knowledge and ability to carry out this procedure smoothly, may Deb be calm and at peace through it's duration and may every thing fall into place so she can be well once again!
Much love always Deb, I love you!

Deborah,

Is this different than the steroid inj done in the hypogastric plexus nerve block? I'm curious if there is another type that might help me. Unfortunately the nerve block didn't help my severe pelvic pain and I'm desperate to find something that works. My morhine just dulls it a bit but is seems to always be there. banghead
I'm sure you can relate. Let me know what the difference is if your aware of it. Thanks a bunch and I will be praying for your procedure to go well and zap that pain right outa there for ya. Hang in there! grouphug

Hi Everyone,

I hope you dont mind me replying to the procedure that Deb was having done. I am not sure excatly what kind of block it is that she is having BUT I do know that I have had several different kinds over the last couple years. Most of these blocks are not generated to work right away most times you may feel some good difference just after a few days after the actual soreness goes away from the procedure.
Most times these blocks need to be done 2 - 3 times to get the full benefit. I sure hope that this might help give you hope. Deb please talk to your dr. about this. I have had a series of 3 caudal nerve blocks and just had my 3rd one yesterday. It has really helped me so much but it took at least to the 2nd one to notice a difference. I suffer terribly with UTI infections and usually cant get out of bed when I am in one. Since I have had these blocks done I have been able to have a infection and still be able to go to work. I am of course not feeling the best in the world but I can still make it through the day and that is a big progress for me!!!
Please I hope that none of ya'll ever just give up thinking nothing is going to work as far as these blocks go I really feel that they can be the biggest part of our healing and relief. Not sure how long the relief might be if it works for you but I know you all agree that ANY relief from IC is a blessing.
I hope that you are all pain free and will talk to your drs about these blocks further. Most of the drs that do these are pain management drs.
Take care *hugs to all*

Kimberly31,

I have also had the trigger pain shots in my iliolingual nerve to help with the pain. I still do not know if it is related to my IC. It may be do to surgery and a nerve got entrapped in scar tissue. All I do know is that after four treatments, I feel so much better. I would go every two weeks and my doctor would tell me that it would get worse before it got better. I was told that the steroids
change the tissue and perhaps break down the scar tissue and release the entrapped nerve. I still have constant pain but instead of a 9/10, I only have a constant 5. I am taking a month break before I go back to the doctor. The only down side is that steroids, over time, can make you gain weight. I gained twenty pounds over an eight week period but now it is slowly slipping off of me. Thank goodness.

Just talk to your doctor about the time it will take to have some type of relief. My prayers are with all of our fellow ICers.

I just had a superior hypogastric nerve plexus procedure that just sucked. My pain doc seems to think the relief I got is worth a permanant block, which is what he wants to do next. It hurt big time and was very truamatic. My pain was 8/10 maybe took it to 6 of 10 for a day (the temporary procedure)and he thinks it is good enough ( hey, I got my bill for the first procedure...$1600...why not a second one) sorry for the cynacism.

Ah well, we shall see.

I am so sorry your block did not give you the results you were hoping for. I was so excited the first time I had one because I felt so numb. I felt like I was normal. I had the best day the next day but then....reality hit and the pain was back full force. I was back to bed 24/7. I held onto hope that with each procedure the pain would lessen. And it did. I still have constant pain but at least I can get out of bed. At times, I hide from the pain when I try to sleep with my pain meds. Of course I cannot sleep all the time so I put ice packs on at times and then otherwise I use my handy heating pad. I have gone through four of them already.
Please talk to your doctor and ask lots of questions. With a bill like that you could ask all the questions you want. Let me know how your next session goes.

Sincerely,
Jeanine

Wow I am so sorry about your experience and the $1,600.00 Bill!!!!! UGH doesnt your insurance pick up most of that???? If not they should of told you that up front that you would be stuck with a bill like that!
Also, I cant even imagine having a block like that and not being TOTALLY OUT! They actually do them while you are awake?? No way they would never even get me near that table. Did ya'll know that you have that right to request sedation??? Most definately it would be very tramautic without it no doubt wow.
I am sorry that it didnt work for you I know those block differ from person to person. Sometimes what doesnt work for one works great for another.
I have been having pretty good success with my blocks when I am in a infection I can still work and that is a big deal in itself when you are so used to not even being able to get out of bed most of the time in a flare or infection.
I hope that you all get some type of relief in whatever you do:cool:

No, no...I'm sure some insurance agent will sigh and pay another bill of Tracey Fisher's....That was just the cost of the procedure...I will have to pay 10% of it though so 160 X 2 sucks (the next one)

I was sedated with versed, some people get nuthin. I have already decided it's not happening unless he agrees to put me out. (or at least put me into a deeper twilight sleep) My doc says he gave me 2 units of the good stuff last time but Icouldn't tell at all. I think maybe my normal daily meds (opiates and relaxants) are making it harder, like increased my tolerance. I've had versed many timesfor surgery and it usually I'm a giggly, joking, and memoryless person for at least 10 minustes before the surgery. (When they actually knock ya out)

Oh well...

see ya later...good luck all
