I was just recently dx with IC after a hysterectomy, but I think I had symptoms, just no flares for almost 4 years. I was on water pills so I had just asumed I was going more because of that. I have also had a very bloated belly, and nothing I have done to lose weight did anything for that. I also have a history of allergies. I was wondering if I got on the antihistimines would they help to reduce my belly. It would finally nice to find the answer, as it is getting harder and harder to find clothes that fit. In order to get something to fit around my belly, it bags elsewhere. Thanks, any help would be appreciated so I know if I need to question my doc about the allergies

Hi! I had a hysterectomy in March and it took about six months for the belly to go away. The IC belly, well I have a small pouch because of the spasms. Ice Helps, heat makes it much worse. Drink ALOT of water, it will get worse before it gets better.

I find that when I am flaring, my waistline increases by inches --- when I feel pretty good, it's not as bad.

My first 1.5 yrs with IC I got the belly really bad...I'm size six but would look 5 months pregnant. I don't get it too bad too often anymore like back then, but I do remember how awful it was trying to find something comfy to wear to work every morning. I still get very sensitive skin in the belly region, but it doesn't swell much anymore. Like Jenn, cold packs are best for me in that area, heat almost intolerable. I've posted before asking those on antihistimines if they helped with IC belly but everyone said no or not really. No absolute yes, it works. :(

I agree when my symptoms are worse, my belly is worse. Finding somthing comfortable to wear is essential for the belly. The worse the cloths are the worse my symtoms are and then the belly...yoga pants are my best friend most days. and of course Ice...it really does help.

Thanks for the help. The diet has helped the IC symptoms, and I sleep better with the heating pad at night. Wish there was more hope for the belly, it has been a really frustrating.

Do you mean that drinking lots of water will increase the bloating initially, but will eventually lead to the belly shrinking?
Thanks!

I am in an awful flare at the moment, and look 6 months pregnant. It gets really hard like when you are pregnant too. My husband doesnot even have to ask me how I am feeling some days because you can just tell by looking at me!

I haven't met many IC sufferers. My mom in law found this site for me. She's a gem. I have been reading about all of you and I just want to cry - but I don't feel alone any more. It's quite scary how many of us suffer so much and how much MEDICATION we are on! STRONG STUFF....this isn't a joke. It's so difficult to explain to the general public you know. You just don't want to...get tired of it. They just see our faces as if we are tired or angry when we are trying to hold in our pain and deal with it day to day. People that are close to us know what we are dealing with, but not our co-workers, bosses, etc....I have been reluctant for a while to be on the HEAVY narcotics - afraid to what people would think of me but I have to be able to live my life, take care of my kids, be a wife - be happy for ME. I commend all of you! Hard working people with families  This disease (s) wears us the heck down physically and mentally. Thank you guys for listening.....so glad there is a place to talk to someone :hi: :hi:

Thanks Leelee,
So sweet of you to reply so quickly! Hope you enjoyed the holidays. Believe me...my IC flared up big time with all of the stress. But better now. Funny thing is that NOW with my new meds if I DO have a huge flare up it's usually a signal that I have a UTI. That sucks as well.:cussing: I was nervous my new meds weren't working and I was going to lose it. This was my last resort after all of these years mixing this with that. I have great docs that have stuck with me...thank goodness. But the MSContin is a dream - 8 hours of relief at a time. I have some breakthru pain...but slight burning.....not like unbearable where I can't function like before. I am a new woman. All the best - Happy New Year!!!
