i was wondering if anything had any good or bad stories about Effexor. I have been on it off and on for a few years now. I wonder if I will ever get off of it. I haven't read any good stuff happening with effexor on the news. When i miss a dose i get really bad side effects.
Thanks, Kiyoka

I have been taking Effexor for about 3 years. I take 150mg during the summer and 187 (funny mg) during the winter months. I love this drug and it has helped me tremendiously. I started taking it because I was the Queen of multitasking and becoming more and more of an obsessive compulsive person. I had so many thoughts swirling around in my head nothing was getting done and I was not a happy camper. I am quite content to continue taking this drug for the rest of my life and believe that will be the case. The only side effect I had was dropping 8lbs, which was a good thing.
From what I understand this drug is not a useful med for IC, as is the case with Elavil. Talk with your doctor about how you are feeling. Why do you want to stop taking it?
Take care.

I've had a couple of non-IC friends try Effexor, not the XR, and they described the first few weeks on it as feeling jittery and nervous. Drs said to continue taking it and side effects would go away. For one friend they did, the other they didn't. Also, they did lose weight, but were already under weight from anxiety and depression, so that was not a good thing.
I take Prozac and it hasn't caused weight gain or weight loss, I am at my ideal weight, so I would definitely notice if it were affecting me in that way. I don't know how bladder friendly it is, but it doesn't bother my bladder, it's not sensitive to meds as many of us here are. The friend who continued to have side effects with Effexor is now on Prozac, and doing very well.
Luckily Prozac worked for me first time around and I didn't have to experiment with other antidpressants, but as the saying goes around here, we're all different! :)
