Since all I ever do is complain, and I actually have some good news, I thought I better report it ASAP! :)

I was having a rough time with the pain; really rough. I've been on MS Contin three times a day for nearly a year and I guess my body had just gotten used to it; the pain would just break right through it after only an hour, or two hours TOPS. I've been really frustrated and upset.

After a suggestion from Sarojini, I talked to my doctor about switching me to Oxycontin, and he agreed that maybe my body would respond to THAT now that it had gotten used to the morphine (MS Contin). And guess what? IT WORKED!!!!!!!!! :woohoo:

I'm on 40 mg 3 x's a day right now and I feel a great deal better. I'm even considering having a friend and her three little boys over for a visit, which is a huge deal for me.

With the pain having subsided some (not gone, but it's manageable at the moment and I'm not flaring), my mood has improved 10 fold as well. I feel up to possibly trying some Pelvic Floor physical therapy now, if we can afford it (this was suggested to me by a pain doctor last week or so). I'm trying to find the money for that, as well as money for PT for my back.

So, at least momentarily, I have hit a patch of luck. I don't know how long this will last, but I'm very happy for it right now.

THANK YOU SAROJINI!!!! Thank you, thank you! You're an angel! :smile tee

The advice I get on this board is priceless, as are the people who give it.

If you aren't getting meds and really need them, keep trying, and keep moving forward. Take the advice of the folks around here; they know what they're talking about! I know how lucky I am to be given anything at all and I am truly grateful for it.

Really thrilled that I have something nice to report!

Thanks ladies!

It's very nice to have something pleasant to report! I think this is the first nice thing I've had to report since I've been diagnosed actually.

I'm starting to become productive as well, or at least for me. I went to the grocery store today! Which is a very big deal. I can't carry much, so didn't buy much, but I did go! Aaaaaaaand, I even have my hair brushed and have makeup on! I don't think my husband recognizes me.

I'm keeping my diet extremely strict at the moment as I don't want a flare to come in a ruin this brief rest. I had some extra pain when I first woke up this morning, but I just laid back on the couch, relaxed as much as possible, put an ice pack on my Hoo-hoo, and took my medicene. When it kicked in, the pain subsided.

I'm even thinking about making plans to have a friend come and visit at the beginning of this week! I want to get some things in in the event this doesn't last too long. I don't mean to be pessimistic, but I just want to make the most of it.

I even queried a local music site about writing an article for them, they accepted the idea/article, and I'm already half way finished with it!

Oh, this is nice. Bearable is so..........bearable!:smile tee

I'm soooooo glad you are getting out and having more fun. Even if it was just for groceries. Try not to do too much. It is so nice not to have so much pain isn't it? I can't remember how pain free it was before the IC. With the darvacet it's like having a whole new life. How about you?
You went shopping and I've been cleaning. Aren't we to wild women. :bonk:
In the morning I don't feel so great pain wise either but take the darvacet, wait 1/2 hour and boom, I'm ready for a few hours. I have noticed if I do too much then the pain starts to come back so I do little spurts of things.
I am really happy for you! :D

THis is a great post to read!! I am so happy the oxycontin is working well for you. You are on the same dose as me and it has worked well for me. one thing to watch out for w/oxy is that it wears off really fast for some people. Just a note of caution.
I hope you continue to get the same relief!
love Sarah

This is wonderful news Boohiss! I love my oxycontin and after being on it for about 2 weeks, I really started to feel good. Something to do w/ getting one medicine out and the other in before they really start to work for you. It is so nice to hear a successful story:woohoo:

I loved my OXy too, but after 2 yrs I was tolerant to taking 40mg every 8 hours. So I just switched to MS Conitn to see if that works better. I am on 60mg every 8 hours.

BOHISS how much MS contin were you on when you switched.
I am going to try this for a while and see, I tried the Duragesic patch for a week and couldn't stand the way it mad me feel. So far I feel ok with this MS contin, as I have never took it before. I didn't know how they figure how much to put you on that would be equal to the OXYCONTIN 40 . Does anyone know?

It's typically 20mg more than the Oxy is the equivalent in MSContin. I was on 20mg of Oxy every 12 hours, and when I became tolerant to that, they switched me to 30mg MSContin every 12 hours. I became tolerant to that rather quickly and went up to 15mg 3x a day, then 30mg 3x a day.

Now, I'm getting tolerant to that, ran out of pain meds and the doc I have counted on and who has never given me any trouble for two years, won't refill my script. Which leaves me without any pain meds for three days after being on narcotics for almost five year.

I think I'll sue her if I end up in horrid withdrawals. I feel there is no excuse for this. :(

My DR just put me on ELMIRON and I do not see any difference, it has been one week How long does it take? I got so desperate the other night I made a vodka high ball and became pain free for ten hours. I hate to keep drinking. :bonk: Love to hear Margaret.

I might drop the Morphine and hit the Vodka!! :) :lmao:
The Elmiron takes up to 6 months to work. The good thing is, though if it works people say you feel MUCH better.

Moonheart - Why wouldn't your Dr refill the meds??
