Hi everyone,
I've recently been diagnosed with IC and I was wondering about 2 things: Flavored waters and Splenda. . .(I'm addicted to both ) I really think they are probably not a good thing for me with this IC, but I am not sure if it is this, or other things in my diet that make me worse. . . Throughout this past weekend, it did not seem to matter at all what I ate, just that everytime I did, I would feel even worse.

Does anyone know about those 2 items?

thanks,
Happy

My suggestion would be to give up both for at least two weeks to see if you feel better. Then try them one at a time --- in small amounts at first --- to find out if they're a problem.

I do okay with Splenda and with Aquafina flavor splash, but they could be a problem for others.

Thank you ICDonna. . . . boy will that be a long 2 weeks, but I guess it's worth a try, if it helps the pain

Thank you:hi:

I have had to give up all artificial sweetners... they do a number on my bladder and my belly. I am afraid to try flavored water. I do make my own with red tea and pear juice...if you need to use a lower calorie sweetener you may want to try stevia..

When I read recently that Splenda can irritate my bladder -- well, it was the first thing I eliminated! And that was before I new I might have IC! Made giving up coffee so much easier.

I agree w/Donna (like I always do lol) and give em up for a cpl weeks. I am fine with Splenda and as for the flavored waters, I can have a cpl sips of the raspberry Aquafina here n there, but not a whole bottle, it does have citric acid in it too. But ya never know, you may be able to have one or the other or both after your body has a break ;) Good Luck!!!

Splenda doesnt' bother me, but flavored waters do. GO figure? lol We all react differently, I hope you can have atleast one, if not both!

Thank you all soo much!:smile tee My bladder had a very rough day yesterday after drinking 4 bottles of the grape Aquafina waters, and I am still struggling today, . . I am pretty sure they are making me worse. . . . :tsk:

I think I will take all of your suggestions and cut them out for a couple of weeks. . . . by the way. . .where can you get Stevia? I've never heard of it.

Again. . . thank you all! May you have a pain free day!!:woohoo:

I'm glad to hear that you girls aren't having trouble with Splenda. I think I've been freaking out a bit because I've been desparate for relief.

Stevia -- gosh, you need such miniscule amounts! You can get it an almost any health food store. It comes in little green packets or you can get a semi-liquid version that's got glycerine in it. Wonder if gylcerine might cause a problem. I'm so paranoid these days.

I was so excited to try Stevia! I mixed it with just plain water & it still bothered me. So give it a try, but even Stevia might be bothersome. It tasted great, though!

I guess the real thing is.....if we want to be healthy, we've got to give up loving sweet things and focus more on savory. It can be done!
