Hi
When I got my prescription for Elmiron the bladder nurse and dr told me that I needed to take it 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals. Also to make sure that I took 3 pills per day. If I missed 1, I was to take 2 the next time. My question is: How necessary is it to schedule the med that way. It does make for scheduling a bit difficult since I do the best when I eat smal amounts often.. Thanks

I have never heard that you should take 2 the next day if you miss a dose... Usually if you miss a dose you just take the next dose when it's time and continue on with the pattern.
The easiest way to take 3 a day is to take them approx. 8 hours appart, since 24 divided by 3 is 8

this is why my dr changed me to take 2, 2xday (400mg)
much easier so no food in stomach and easier to remember
i take them the min i awake, and bedtime
ask your dr about this

I found not eating anything before or after taking the Elmiron really difficult because I constantly have food in my mouth it seems like. I asked my doctor about how strict that was and she said that it absorbs better if you have an empty stomach, but not to worry about it too much. I take my first one first thing in the morning so I know I'm okay on that one but the rest of the time I just take it and don't worry about if I've eaten anything or not. It hasn't seemed to make it work any less, I've been feeling really great on it. Also I usually take my 2nd and 3rd pill together even though they're supposed to be spaced out. It just fits better into my schedule that way. I've been doing really good on it that way and that's all that matters to me. Good luck!

My DR prescribed 1 pill before bed and 2 in the morning. The pharmacist told me it worked better if I could try to stick to the empty stomach recommendation. I find the morning one easy, I keep a bottle of water at my nightstand and take it as soon as I get out of bed so I can have breakfast by the time I leave for or get to work. The evening one sometimes is more difficult because I like my night time snack but even so if I snack at 8, I can take it at 10 right before bed.

Thank you to everyone who has responded to my post. Some days I seem to have a real pity party for myself but post and suggestions from you buoy my spirits up!!! I am going to talk to the dr about the schedules you have mentioned. My sis who is an RN told me that I should let myself off the hook once in awhile just so it doesn't drive me totally nuts!! I am pretty close to being there at the best of times. lol Thanks again for your input
