I was just wondering if anyone has found the "perfect" time at night to take the Antihistamine? What I mean is how far ahead of bedtime has anyone found to be the right time - 1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours, etc... Or is there anyone out there who takes them at dinner time? I have been off of them for awhile BUT I am going to start back on them tonight, and they do make me sleepy during the day if I don't get enough sleep the night before OR if I have to wake up eariler than I usually do. If I wake up on my own I am usually not so sleepy. I have noticed that since I have not been taken them I do tend to go alot more at night.

How much are you taking? I take 25mg of Hydroxizine (Atarax) and for me, it is better to take it around 8-9 pm. But I have been on it so long that now, it really doesn't matter. If you are taking Elavil with it too that can also make you more tired. Try taking your meds around 8 pm and see if you are less groggy in the morning.

I too take 25mgs of Hydroxyzine at "bedtime", lol, but actually I try to get it in anywhere from 7-9, that time frame seems to be the best and 9pm is kind of pushing it, but I am still fairly ok when I get it in by then.

I am the same as Wendi, been on it so long that it doesn't make that much of a difference - but once I also added in Zyrtec, it was more important I follow my time frames, lol.

I take my meds around 7-8, any later and I'm out of it in the morning. I even skip one night a week because I have to get up too early the next morning. I've been taking Elavil/Atarax for 3 mos. I haven't figured out how long it takes to get used to these meds or when your supposed to be able to tell if there working???

Thank you all for your reply. I take 25mg of Hydroxyzine. I will have to try taking them between 7-9. I don't drive after dark anyway, so that should not be a problem. I have been on this medication for the last couple years, I just got away from taking them. But like I said eariler, I want to get back to taking them on a regular basis.

Thanks Again,

I took 10 mg last night and very tired this morning. It doesn't matter if it is 7 or 9p, it still gets me.
