Hi All,
has anybody tried acupuncture to help or treat IC flare ups?

get acupuncture and take the Chinese herbs for same.
The needles help for several days afterward but seems to me it wears off after 3 or 4 days. The herbs are good - I take one for pain (good!) and one for anxiety (not so good.)
I haven't really found that the TCM (trad. chinese med) can truly address the real misery of anxiety and I've been trying it for 10 years.

I tried accupuncture many years ago and found it to be very helpful. At that stage I was still undiagnosed. After many months of treatment, the pain settled down and I stopped going. By the time it became a real problems again, I had an idea that it was IC and went with the more traditional treatments which have now helped.

Rosalie,
did acupucture help with the frequency? I am finding now that my flare ups are giving me more frequency problems, I have the pain pretty much under control. Frequency is giving me grief, you still can not go out of the house unless you know there are going to be toilets. I am losing confidence in myself and my bladder condition to go anywhere. Your help will be greatly appreciated
I have thought about having accupuncture, but I am scared of needles.
Good luck if you decide to have it done.

I can't answer for the frequency as it isn't a big problem for me. However, it certainly helped with the pain. As Izazan said it does wear off but the longer I went for treatments the longer the pain relief would last.
Now as for the needles... they as so fine that you hardly feel them and certainly, not at all, once they are in place. Some of the accupuncture points are more sensitive than others. Most, you feel nothing at all, while some are like a little electric tingle.Overall the whole experience was very restful... I would often fall asleep!
At the beginning of one treatment, I said how I had a headache. "I can fix that" he said and with one more needle... voila!....magic!... gone!
