Don't know if all the Wal-marts are having this deal yet, but the ones in Texas and in at least 14 other states are. They have a list of 300 medications that cost $4.00. This is for people who have no insurance or who have insurance. Also here in Texas HEB stores are doing the same thing, except their's are $5.00 and they have a larger list - 500 medications on theirs. again you don't have to have insurance. Just in the last week between my husbands and my medications we have saved almost $25.00 (granted, not much, but thats just 4 prescriptions that we take! I think 4 more of mine are on their lists, other than that, I have to pay my co-pays.)

Just be careful!!!!

This is what happened when I went for my tramadol (ultram). I gave them the script which was a 30 day script (120 pills 4xa day). They wouldn't fill it for $4. When I asked why they said they didn't know. I was ******. I even wrote an email to the news channel. They'll get you in the store thinking you'll get your script for $4 only to say it can't be filled. On the list of medications they cover if you'll notice at the top it says a 30 day supply in a common dosage or something like that. But they are smart .... they don't list what that dosage is. So you have people in the store thinking that there script is covered and then they tell you that your script is not a common dosage. Walmart needs to list the amount of pills they will cover at $4. This of course is a marketing ploy to get people in the store. What everyone needs to be aware of is... They need to call Walmart first and see how many pills of the medication they can get at the $4 before your doctor writes the script. That way you will be sure they will cover it. Otherwise you may end up like me.. I had a script for 30 days but because they didn't consider it a common dosage they wouldn't cover it. SO BE PROACTIVE AND CALL BEFORE YOUR DOC... WRITES THE SCRIPT. IF YOU HAVE THE WALMART LIST AND SEE MEDS YOU USE CALL NOW AND GET THE AMOUNT OF PILLS COVERED SO THAT YOU WILL BE READY AT YOUR NEXT APPT AND YOUR DOCTOR CAN WRITE THE SCRIPT IN A WAY THAT YOU CAN GET THEM FOR $4.

On what you are saying, I had the same problem with my husbands- he is taking metformin (120 tablets at 500 mg. at Walmart they said it would be $8.00 - but at HEB they said it would be $5.00 -- either way, his doctor changed his prescription to 1000 mg with 60 tablets this way he can get it for $4.00. So apparently, at Walmart a 30 day supply is 60 tablets- at least that is what our pharmist(?)told me. Either way, for us its a win-win situation. You just have to do some footwork.

I agree it is a great deal if you do the footwork up front. Otherwise it's just a pain in the ass because if you don't know what they are doing you may end up paying higher than $4. I wrote to the news channel challenging Walmart to not only list the covered drugs but also list the dosages covered. I'm sure Walmart won't do that. So us IC'ers and everyone else may get some surprises when they are at Walmart to pick up a $4 script. Fortunately for Walmart we will pick up some needed groceries etc., while in the store. And isn't that the whole purpose of this anyway? Come on Walmart list the dosages covered, that's the only right thing to do.

Karen:

If you go to their website, and go to the pharmacy and find the $4.00 pricing, click on that, you will find the list of prescriptions along with the dosage of the medications.

I didn't just started going to Walmart for the $4.00 prescription, I have been getting my medications there for a number of years, so if its $4.00 its $4.00 if its my regular pricing thats great too. I do realize there are people who don't have insurance, so yes this might effect them in ways.

Great! I didn't realize they had it on a website. I still think they should list it on the list of medications. If they have it available on the web why not have it on the list of medications so everyone has access to it. A lot of elderly people do not have computers and to be honest those are the people I worry the most about. I think those are the people that are usually the most vulnerable.

I agree with you there. Like I mentioned on the first posting, there is another store in our state that is doing the same thing except for $5.00 and with 500 medications, they do not however, have a listing of their medications, (in a way they do, you have to go to their website and type in the name of the medication and if it comes up the regular price then you know its not on their lists) I ask them how come they don't make their list available to the public and they said because it changes so often. I felt like saying so what, then update it then! I don't remember what exactly I said but they said you can call us with the medication you are taking or give us a list of medications and we can tell you what is and what isn't on the list. I think for the most part, I'll stick with Walmart, as one thing they know who I am because like I said earlier, I've been getting my medications there for quite a while.

I just filled my morphine script at Wal-mart under the assumption that I would get it cheaper and that wasnt the case. I still had a $10 co-pay and my Elmiron is a $20 co-pay.

I just checked the Wal-mart website and I didnt see anything on there about $4.00 prescriptions so I guess they are not offering it in my State although I did hear about it before this.

Angelhrt,
When Wal-Mart announced the $4.00 prescriptions, they were not going to do it nationwide for awhile. .. for the time being, it was only going to be 2 cities in Florida. . . that may be why you were charged a higher price.

Well, I wish that they would. Last month I had to go a week before I could pick up my Elmiron script because I was out of cash. I get paid bi-weekly so if I run out of meds on an off week, I am screwed. I am just afraid of those spasms coming back if I am out. My doctor told me about getting help with prescriptions through the company, but my husband makes great money compared to my no money. I have lost over $10,000 this year from being out sick from work. :cussing:

I've looked at the list of available 4.00 drugs and a couple of mine are on there, like my bp med, and Tom's bp meds, but there are NO narcotic pain meds, only a few rx'd antiinflammatories, no sleeping pills like ambien, only the generic of xaxax I think it was...so it's a great deal if you take the meds that they put on their list. I figured it HAD to be too good to be true....just wondering how they figure WHAT is a COMMON dosage for one day of most meds....seems thats a doctor's job?

The $4.00 plan is now available in 14 states (I know Florida and Texas are 2 that they are available in- don't know where else) If its available where you live, you need to go to their website and see what drugs are on their list. I know only 3 of mine and 3 of my husbands are. ( I know my husbands diabetes medicine since he took 120 pills a month that wasn't on their list but he was also taking 4 pills a day, the doctor changed that to 60 pills a month/2 pills a day). Its a pretty good deal if your medications are on the lists.

I have not checked walmart yet, i just heard about the program yesterday. I just wanted to comment on the price of ultram. At one drug store, it would be 12 cents a pill!! At another drug store, it is 60 cents a pill! The drug store told me that the more pills you get, the cheaper it is! I will go check that out at walmart, because i only get 3 prescripitions with medicaid, and i am having to pay for the others. I have a great PCP who will write the prescripitons for a 3 month supply,if they are covered by medicaid. Most of the time i have to tell him, that i checked with the drug store and medicaid will pay for a 3 month prescripition. That allows me to juggle my prescripitions around. The ambien and nexium are not, they can only do a 30 day supply. I understand about ambien..but nexium??? It pays to call different drug stores, if at all possible. On another prescripition, walmart and cvs were charging,
45 cents a pill, but the other drug store, it was 22 cents, now that was for the same amout of pills. So maybe they just have differant mark ups...
Well that is it for my 2 cents worth of info!!! LOL

KY isnt on the program yet. :( But, if it were, it would cover my Prednisone, Elavil, Diclofenac, Diflucan, Cipro when I need it, Estrogen, and Lidocaine. Bummer we dont have the program in Ky yet!!! :(

My wife was having problems finding the list of WalMart $4.00 Meds, so she asked me to help.:help: Not that I am any better, I just use the computer more.:smile tee Thought this might help others that seem to be having a problem finding the list. It should not make a difference in what state or location you are in to access the list of covered medications. Go to 'www.Walmart.com'. On the top banner, click on 'Pharmacy'. Under 'Featured Categories', 'Generic Drug Program', click on '$4.00 Drug List (PDF)'. If you do not have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed, three lines below the Drug List is a Adobe Acrobate Reader download site. Just click on it, follow the instructions, and then click on the list. We have not tried the program yet and we currently use Walgreens. We will let you know what we decide after we check it out. Good Luck all and stay safe........

It is available here in Western NY! Just found out last night! Whoo hoo! My insurance changes in January from $3.00 copays on generics to $25.00 so this is going to be a life saver. It will cover my Elavil, Buspar, Ditrupan and a fw other things for non- Ic stuff -antibiotics, etc.
Just thought I'd share for others in the Rochester/ Buffalo Area.

I'm in PA and they aren't offering it here yet but I work as a customer service rep for a company that admins health benefits for reitired teachers and a lot of the medications that are on the list for Walmart actually cost less than $4 I'm sure that there are some savings there but if the retail of the med is less than $4 then Walmart is still going to charge you $4. So for some meds it isn't a good deal at all. I have Rx coverage so I don't know if I'll even have a need for it once it is available here. The only meds I'm on right now are the Elmiron which my insurance makes me pay the highest copay for which is $60 for a month through the pharmacy or $120 through mail order for 90 days.:cussing: I have four kids in my house. I almost had a heart attack when I found out how much it was. I'm 28 years old and had to call my parents and ask them to help me pay for it so I wouldn't go broke. I'm also on birth control pills but they're generic and really cheap anyway.
