I had mine in October by a Dr. in Lincoln, Nebraska. It did not work for me. I am still glad I tried it though and I hope it works for you. After my first surgery, the Medtronic rep told me that it does not usually work if you have a lot of pelvic pain. I do have a lot of pelvic pain. I don't know if what he said is true, it just didn't help me at all. I wish you lots of good luck!

Oh Carly,
I am so sorry you went thru the trial and it didnt help :( Your dr is dead wrong... the interstim is not in any way shape or form ment to be used for pain. .. How I would love to wrap my fingers around thes doctors necks and choking the life out of them for telling you gals that cussing cussing cussing ... Its only for frequency and urgency....

My best advise to anyone thinking about Interstim, is to find a few people who have had great luck...and a few who haven't. I am on my third revision and seriously considering removal. If it weren't for the fact that I get serious retention when my unit is off I would have had it out a long time ago. I'd be happy to talk to you feel free to PM me or email me at phollen@yahoo.com

Hi!
Just a suggestion...ask your doctor if he could arrange for you to speak to some of his patients that have had the Interstim procedure. That is what my doctor did. With my permission, he gave a few patients my phone # and they were willing to tell me all the pros and cons of the Interstim device.
I went and had it implanted for urinary scream scream retention and I am VERY happy with the results. The IC pain is still present and my doctor made it clear that this was not to treat IC pain. Good luck...Tina C.

Tina~the only problem with that is that the dr's will give you the #'s HE wants to give out.

I had good results for 18months.....non-working for 6 months, revision, then the device removed after 2more years.

I had my stage 1 device implanted in May and developed a massive infection in my back at the site of the implant. After the infection cleared up, which took about 1 month, I had the permanent device implanted in.....I have had to be reprogrammed about 7 times but i would do it again. When it is working I feel absolutely great!! Everyone is different.

Well sounds like the inner-stem has done great for most. I am scheduled to have the trail implanted on March 1. My doctor has had great results except with one patient. He also has made it very clear that is doesn't make the pain go away but it has been know the help some. He also said there will be days when your flare is bad you will have to use more pain meds. than on days when it is not. He said everyday is different for every patient and you have to do what works for you. He said that if he had this painful disease that he would do it in a heartbeat and not think twice. They also have a conference once a month with a Medrodonic representitive that will explain everything and answer any question you can think of. She is also the one that assists is the implantation of the device. My doctor has two nurses that has been in training for the programming, etc. He lets them do all that and stated he wouldn't know what to do without them!!!! Tami
