Does anyone know of anyone who had only frequency & urgency as their IC symptoms (no pain unless bladder is full) and who has had their bladder removed? I vaguely remember reading something several years ago that patients w/o pain had more successful surgeries, but I may be wrong in what I remember.

:welcome: This would be a great question to ask the doctor you are working with. Are you thinking about removal? It's something to work extensively with your doctor on or several Urologists and Specialists. I would pick up the phone and call the your doctor to ask this question.
I personally don't know of anyone that had thier bladder removed for only urgency and frequency but someone else like Judith or one of the other Ladies on this board may know of someone.
Sorry I could not be of more help to you.

Welcome to the board Booklover! I happen to be one those whose main problem was frequency and urgency. I would have pain if I had to hold it, but in general I never had pain in the bladder area. I did occaissionally have urethral pains that felt like a knife was going up me, but for the most part it was the frequency that drove me nuts. Right before I got my bladder out things had gotten to the point where I did have a lot of urethral pain more frequently. Things had really deteriorated by then and at this point I no longer had a choice, but to have the surgery. It has been my experieince in talking to people who have had the surgery and their chief symptoms were frequency and urgency, that they tend to do very well afterwards. Judith

Thanks, Judith. I think you may have been the person who posted that information several years ago. I've been reading these boards on and off (much more off than on) for the last 5-6 years, but am just now starting back with seeing a urologist on a regular basis.

Next question: Does anyone know of any patients with frequency & urgency (no pain) that the surgery did not help?

Thanks for the input, ladies. I think I'm several years away from that solution, if is to happen. For now, my doctor is trying several drug combinations (Elmiron + .......). I've been on Elmiron for over 5 years and it alone seems to be losing its effectiveness, hence the need to try additional medicines.
