OK so I am trying to be funny! :)
But seriously, after my 1st DMSO I just emitted this roasted garlic smell all day and it was all I could taste! It made me REALY crave pasta and marinara sauce! (but I had turkey and mashed potatoes instead, I swear!)
This was my first DSMO installment and while I won't say it worked miracles, it was the first bladder installment I have had that gave me a significant amount of pain relief right away. I went over 12 hours without needing to take any sort of pain reliever or pain killer, plus I was able to do laundry and other chores and still not have more than a few fleeting twinges of pain. And unlike the rescue treatments, I didn't have any incontinence with this (the nurse gave me very little amounts of numbing agents this time, thanks again for bringing that to my attention Donna!)
So I go again next week and am feeling more optimistic than I have in a while. Hopefully these will help me. Not much has and I have had alot of things done or put into my body these past two months!
And I will just have to buy lots of gum!

Mine was fairly mild when I tried this treatment too -- my husband said I smelled more like cooked corn than garlic, and he LIKED the smell. He is WEIRD ;)

I like the vampire repellent idea :biglaugh:

I was wondering what vampires had to do with bladder problems. Then I relized where it had been posted. :lmao: That's funny. Gave me a laugh for today. :biglaugh: I didn't have that problem when I had it done. Or else nobody dared to say anything to me. :bonk:

I got the cooked corn smell too--along with garlic and "nursing home smell"!! Lovely!!! My family was extremly grossed out by the smell. My husband wouldn't even drive in the car with me--he couldn't stand me--I made him gag. :smile tee
DMSO worked well for me for about a year. I'd usually have 2 good days after the treatment. So I'd do DMSO on Thurs. (sometimes I'd still be spasming Fri) then I'd have a decent weekend.

When I had mine, which were years ago...My mom insisted that I didn't smell like anything. When my younger son came home. He was in his early teens and we went somewhere in the car. He rolled down the window and complained that the smell was so bad. I just cried....I made him feel so bad. I am so glad that the dmso is working so far. It made me worse. The doctor I was going to then made me go through several treatments. This is what I keep telling my mom that the treatments don't work for everyone!!!!

I am sorry you had to keep having something done that made you worse. I had horrible experiences with the rescue treatments, they made my symptoms worse after just a little relief and I had terrible incontinence. After three the nurse decided to try something new. It is really strange with IC bladder installments how some of these are great for one person and a nightmare for another. I wish it wasn't so dramatic a difference, but everything about what has lead up to my diagnosis and afterwards has been pretty dramatic! And I never realized how many medications have crazy side effects until all of this either. Geeze, I went from yellow urine and fears of stained contacts and stained everything for that matter to smelling like I sucked on garlic cloves all day!
My hubby is really sweet and didn't want to hurt my feelings, but I could see him flinch when I started talking near him. He eventually just slipped the Altoid's in my pocket with an apologetic smile!
But if these keep helping, I am going to keep trying for about 6 treatments or so.

I can soooo sympathize with you. I could usually taste the garlic smell before I got out of the doctors office. My boyfriend was always sweet about it even though he could always smell it on me. Cinnamon altoids became my best friend - I would go through several on the way home. I did always drink tons of water when I first got home which seemed to lessen the odor as I started peeing it out. I always took the day off because I was sooooo self conscious. I think even the dog could smell it!
