Hi everybody--
I just talked to Laura's mom and she said she is doing pretty well. She has a bit of a fever but is hanging in there. They were getting her up to walk so she wasn't able to talk. Will let everyone know when I hear more.

Barb,
I am glad to hear she is doing well. Having a Fever about 2-4 days after bladder removal is standard and normal. I had this happen too and it was acutally what my doctor wanted to see happen. He did not say why but he said it was good and he was happy that it was going on. It meant that I was following the normal course of treatment. Let's hope that this all it is with Laura.
I also spoke with Laura's mom to give her some support. Mom's who have thier daughters go through this need support too! Her mom is staying in a hotel nearby. She asked me some questions about my recovery and I told her that Laura is right on track and that it is all good news. Her Mom sounded relieved to know that the fever was normal and expected as long as it's monitored closely. Barb, she did get up to walk which is GREAT NEWS! Laura is still having trouble with her back. I hope she gets some relief soon. I am glad she is recovering well so far. I was happy to hear that Laura was sleeping as this is needed for recovery.
Keep up the recovery Laura!
Love and Hugs!

So glad to hear that she is okay. I have been pretty worried about here, as everyone has. I hope that she heals well and is back home with her kids soon. Thanks again for the update!

Yup Kara,
You are absolutely right. Most people develop low grade temps post op as a result of being in bed and what is called atelectasis where the small grape like sacs in your lungs called alveoli(which have the consistency of saran wrap)collapse in on each other. Deep breaths, walking, and an incentive spirometer usually help.

Glad to hear things are going along right on schedule. It sounds like she will do okay if she is doing this well so far. Go Laura!

Just talked to Laura. She wasn't feeling so swell so I told her we were thinking of her and to get some rest.

I thought since Laura will not be feeling well for part of this time that it would be nice to just send her an email card letting her know we are thinking of her. That way she can rest and not worry about talking on the phone. I posted where we can all email her on this board.

I think so too, and I told her to worry about herself right now and concentrate on getting better. Laura being Laura is more worried about all of us and I also mentioned she needed to be a little selfish and to make herself a priority. I think the email notes are a great idea.

:hi: I was thinking some of us could email Laura a card since it's hard for some of us to go out and get cards.
