I have a preliminary diagnosis of IC. My Uro can't find any other cause for my symptoms and has decided to treat me rather than put me through hydrodistention or other tests. I have been on Ditropan for three weeks and was pretty much symptom free - until today-

My question is, has anyone noticed a link to flares accuring after you period? I just realized that both of the flares I have had came about 2 weeks after my cycle started? Just trying to figure my body out. Thanks for the help.

It's not unusual for hormone fluctuations to effect IC symptoms.

I have a weak time during my period, usually a week before, during, and after for a few days and then I go back to normal.

Hi there! I definitely flare at that time of month (or at least I used to). I would flare the week before, the week during, and the week after. When you do that math, there's only a few days left in the month. Thus, I now take Seasonale (Birth Control) and have found that it really helps my symptoms. I was on birth control before the seasonale, but still had the flare issue. In case you aren't familiar with Seasonale, it's birth control you take for three months at a time (thus, only having 4 periods a year).

Hope that helps! I hope you are able to find relief soon.

Take care,
Jennifer

Yeah, I used to get a menstrual flare every single month. Mine lasted from the begining of my period to a few days past the end. Now I'm on continous birth control, and that's taken care of the problem. Continous birth control can be done with regular birth control pills (in my case, Ortho Tri-Cyclen), you just skip the "inactive" week and go straight from Week 3 back to Week 1. This means that you have to get a refill every 21 days, as opposed to once a month. It's really awesome, because I no longer have periods at all. And no periods means no mentrual flares :woohoo:

Hormone fluctuations go effect IC my IC symptoms 100%. In fact my whole hormonal cycle rules my year. Unfortunatley, My body can't take any form of birth control. I've tried many and had my symptoms increase. So I am at the point of suffering. I am trying to find some answers as to why this may be happening and what I can do about it or what a doctor can do about it. I am only 30 and still want kids. Oh and I am infertile too so that makes this much harder.

Doctors say that hormones effect IC quite a bit. I experience regular flare ups during my ovulation (1/2 way mark between bleedings), and then I experience a nightmare for about 3 days during menstruation. I have to practically knock myself out with painkillers just to survive the beginning of my periods. I think I may have endometriosis in my bladder, though. Any thoughts?

How do you get endo in your bladder? How do you know if it is in there...sorry newly diagnosed but been IC for a loooong time now.

I flare during my periods every month. My gyno had me try the nuvaring and it seemed to help some. I stopped using it a few months ago when I started taking new medicines for my IC. Has anyone else had any success with nuva ring?
