I am still waiting on the verdict after testing negative for a suspected UTI and showing many of the symptoms that our participants here describe for about a year. Just curious if anyone had irritation and itchiness moreso in the morning just as you get up? This has been a pattern with me during this latest episode and was wondering if it may be due to something (ie Holding urine for longer than usual). I do pee at least twice a night usually. Thanks !

My mornings are awful :evilsmile
I wake up with such burning in my bladder that I don't want to start the day
About 1/2 of using the bathroom the pain starts to subside
I started taking 2 prelief at night and this helps
I don't have itching in the morning. Do you have a yeast infection? If you use a sanitary napkin at night, make sure it is unscented. I did have an issue a few months ago where I woke up sore down below and that was the reason...I had bought a scented product.
Also, I use only non scented laundry detergent, fabric softener and fabric sheets. This also made a huge difference.
Hope some of this might help.

My mornings are horrible... Like today I woke up at 6am with horrible burning and urgency. I had to take a codine and now I feel really dizzy at work. I probably shouldnt have drove to work but I cant afford to call out of work again. Usually when I start to move around and get going in the morning I start to feel better. I'm not sure but it seems as though when your body is more relaxed (sleeping) your seem to flare up more. Well maybe that's just me!

I can relate. I try not take my pain Rx until I get to work at 8:00, but waking up at 6:00 in pain...well, I just can't always wait to 8:00:bonk:
I can't call in sick every week. I sympathize with you.

I always feel extra discomfort and urgency when I wake up, especially if I've been sleeping soundly. I think it's because, unlike when I'm awake, my bladder gets fuller when I'm sleeping.

I find that early evening is the worst time for me. I have a urinary diversion via a stoma site but get severe burning and itching around my vulva and where my urethra was, my stoma also bypasses during this time which is very unpleasant.
I do not wear a bag from my stoma as I have a severe latex allergy but instead have a tube coming out of the stoma with a catheter inserted. I have a bag or a valve attached to the end of the catheter. I find if the symptoms are really severe that wearing a bag and keeping it on free drainage seems to help. My Urologist thinks my symptoms are made worse due to bladder spasms, by having the bag attached on free drainage it prevents the resected bladder from contracting this relieving the severe burning and itchiness.
However, I don't recommend having to go through major surgery to have a bladder diversion just to relieve the symptoms.
I find diazepam very helpful and instilling a local anaesthetic gel helps. Sitting or putting cold water over the affected area seems to help too.

I always have pain and spasms, sometimes even retention, in the morning. Like Donna, I suspect that while I sleep, the bladder gets too full and the urine gets too concentrated, and so when I wake up all heck breaks loose!! :)

I just got back from my GP. She finally did an exam and took a swab to check for everything including yeast. She bugs me because she gives me the distinct impression that there is nothing you can do if the diagnosis if it is IC- That the disease is more a process of elimination (which may be somewhat true i suppose) and I should just learn to adjust. She finally suggested that if all results are clear that she would refer me to a uro-gynecologist. Thankfully the urgency has subsided in the last few days but I can still periodically feel pressure with urethral irritation and my lower back bothers me. I just want to know for sure.

the morning times seem to be better for me to urinate. I don't know why? I guess it's because during the night I take sips of water from my water bottle so my urine doesn't get as concentrated as it use to. afternoons are the worst for me. nights are o.k.

Occasionally, in the morning it is bad, but I usually can get going pretty quickly. If I have a good breakfast and begin drinking right away, the burning is not so bad. But if I hit the ground running too fast in the morning and don't get enough to drink, I have hll to pay. I really would like to take a walk in the evening, but I can just about walk to the bathroom, much less around the block. We had a very spicy dinner tonight. I didn't eat much of it because I could imagine what I would be feeling. Right now, I keep getting those spasms that just take my breath away. I try to combat the morning burning by drinking enough before I go to bed - but - then I have to go more often during the night. I find that when I drink a lot and consequently, urinate frequently, I have more bladder pain - I guess the muscle is just tired.
I just thank God for these boards. I would be still thinking that I was making all this up.

I was the same way. I didn't want to drink water before bed .but now I go about three times after drinking 10 oz. of water and head for bed. I started to go less frequently to the bathroom after I started the rescue instills. But I was at a point where I would have a habit of waking myself up every 30 minutes to see if I needed to go to the bathroom. BAD HABIT. not good for bladder either as my urine was sooo concentrated it would burn my bladder and probabley made it worse. I don't do that anymore I just sleep until my bladder wakes me up to go and because of this my bladder isn't as bad anymore. I also take 2 medium sips of water after or before I urinate so the urine will stay diluted. My mouth is always dry too so drinking water kind of rehydrates me a bit.

Mornings are certainly my worst time because my pain med levels tend to dip, my bladder fills and depending on which way I am laying, my bladder gets irritated and painful where the urine is stagnant. It takes about an hour for me to be even reasonably comfortable.

Mornings are definetely worse for me. The whole day is worse but the morning is really bad. For me it's a hormonal thing. My progesterone levels rise in the morning and that causes the symptoms I am having to increase.

As long as I stop drinking water 3 to 4 hours before bedtime, and urinate around 4 o'clock in the morning, by the time I wake up around 7 or so, I feel terrific. I think sleep is actually something that improves my IC. Stress is decreased which relaxes those pelvic muscles during sleep, so I think that's why mine is better in the morning. After a full day of crazy work, I'm pretty tightly wound - and hurting!

Yes! Mornings are the worst! I take Elavil before bed and then when I wake up in the morning I spend all my time in the bathroom. Plus symptoms of nausea always linger.

I'm actually better in the morning. I don't have the problem with concentrated urine because I'm up several times in the night (luckily I fall back to sleep easily!). I think the rest really helps the muscles supporting my bladder to relax. Like someone else stated, I'm worse after a busy day of running around. My doctor thought this might indicated pelvic floor dysfunction, as many of his IC patients were worse in the morning, not night. I posted a question for others and found that many are worse in the morning, too, so I think it really depends on the individual -- this disease has so many variables! But, be assured, you aren't alone! Many others feel worse in the morning, too.

I sympathize, it is not fun to wake up in pain. It appears your doctor's are taking your claim seriously and have prescribed an Rx to help. I hope that someday we all have relief in the morning so that we can begin our day without pain!

Mornings are worse for me. The first couple of trips to the potty are the worst. When I am not flaring things get better later on.

Mornings are absolutely horrible. And I take 240mg L.A. Morphine before bed besides other meds. My hubby quite often has to help me up as I feel like a truck has run over my pelvis. Then I'm on the potty (taking my morning meds) & waiting for them to work. This probably sounds silly, but thats when I feel the washroom is my safe place. IC & all the other things that go with it sure ain't for sissies!!!(lol).

I am awaiting my next doctor's appt. and have been documenting all my findings until then. The 1st question I have for him is why I hurt so much more in the morning. I can not tell if my pain truly subsides as the day goes on, or if a relativity effect comes into play (as in, it hurts just the same in the afternoon but since I have already been feeling it all day it seems to hurt less, or because I am busier at work I do not notice the pain as much). I also have hypothesized that it has to do with the infrequency with which I go the bathroom at night (once a night, twice at most, whereas I usually go AT LEAST every hour while waking). Anyone with answer please let me know!

I am like jjt001. I feel almost normal in the morning. I really fear to get up, because I don't know what symptoms I will have that day:all of them at the same time or just one at a time.

Mornings are worst for me- I wake up anywhere from 2a.m. to 4a.m. needing to go to the bathroom, pain hits me like a ton of bricks. Hurts so bad that before I can go back to sleep I have to take pain meds, then have to let them take effect, so here I am reading a book for at least 30 minutes or so then I have to go to the bathroom again! No wonder I look like I do when i walk into the office in the mornings. (No, I don't look that bad.)

Yes! Mornings and late evenings tend to be the worst for me, probably for the same reasons as stated above. I've noticed the more I wake up to "go" at night, the less pain I'm in in the morning, so it is a lose lose situation! because spending all my sleeping hours in the bathroom is no fun either! lol
