Hi,
I went to the urologist today to see if he could help with my pain. He wants to give me a cystocopy and hydrodistention this Friday. He told that I will feel some pain afterward but for some it sends them into remission. I'm scared that it will cause more pain. Right now I'm taking percocet, pyridium, and elavil. He wants to start me on elmiron 3 times a day, does elmiron help quite a bit? How long does the pain last after the hydrodistention is done and how long does it take before you see results? How often in a year do ICers get hydrodistentions done and do they help a lot?

Hey Suzanna - I haven't had one done, but I know there are many here who have and breezed through it. Sure there was discomfort afterwards (the bladder's been a bit violated, lol) but it will go away and yep quite a few have had great relief by having one done! ;) Usually it's just done for diagnosis, but I know there are some around here who have had a few done here and there.

It's normal to be scared about having any kind of procedure like that, but you'll do just fine! I know it!!! :) I am sure lots will chime in on their experiences to help you get a better idea - I wish I had some info for you, but as I said, I didn't have one.

everyone reacts differently to distention, but I am sure that you will do great. Think positive thoughts <smiles>

i know your nervous but it is a good diognostic tool and y hydro actually helped alot. i went from wanted to jump off a cliff to being as normal as an IC paitent can be!

i won't lie it was a good 2 weeks before i started feeling more better than worse but it has given me 6 months of a normal life, and to me it's worth it! If you keep up on your pain medication and take it easy for the first 3 days or so you'll be fine.

i only wish my uro could do a hyrdo that quick on me

I've had forty now in my 31+ years with IC (they help me a lot) and I'm still nervous each and every time. I take it easy for a few days afterwards and the procedure helps me for anywhere from six months to almost two years.
