Has anyone gone for allergy testing and found they were allergic to foods that can make IC worst??

I've had extensive allergy testing and found that I really allergic to molds....in any way shape or form so when I ingest something that is made on a mold I get really sick...........bladder as well as the entire body. I also have lots of chemical sensitivities that kill my bladder.

I am having total knee replacement soon :smile tee and I have a nickel allergy. My ortho/sur wanted me to be tested for other metal allergies. The allergist is the one that suggested:wink: testing for food sensitivities when I mentioned I had IC. He said hat IC is food sensitive and he could test to see if I did have food sensitivities.

How about that for an answer?

Needless to say he tested for everything (I think about 150 food and other sensitivities), then he tested the metal/ poly allergies (another 20).:cussing: No news, I am allergic to nickel. :biglaugh: Just a note...all joint replacement (except 1) contain nickel.

Just to put your mind at ease, I have to have my hand numbed for an IV because it hurts sooo bad, so I can say, you can handle this.:)

Yes, discovered I am allergic to soy, tree nuts, peanuts, shellfish, fish, legumes. Some of these I knew before testing, some I did not. I had some small improvement removing these from my diet.... (

I've had allergy testing & I get weekly allergy shots. I'm not allergic to a single food, though. I'm allergic to just about everything else in the world, but not any foods.

kadi, I have similar allergies with the addtition of eggs and milk. I've felt better in removing these items from my diet in the sense that I don't get the horrible allergic response afterwards that keeps me sick for days but as far as my IC goes.....I don't think it improved it :(

YES, - dustmites and dogs/cats - very severe. Allergies create IC symptoms even in people without Hunner's Ulcers (like me)...that is why my urologist says - "you don't have IC, you have allergies/but it feels and responds to foods like IC".

When I'm exposed to the allergens the mast cells in my bladder (heck all over my body) react and get inflamed...SO when urine / highly acidic urine/ comes in contact with this inflamation in the bladder - set off by the HISTAMINE REACTION from the allergy - WHAM - IC symptoms...bloating pain frequency & urgency...

AND because the bladder IS inflamed...from my allergies mind you which is nearly always is/as is most people who have allergies (environmental or food caused)...when I eat foods that are irritating to the bladder - ic no no list - yes, same IC symptoms...

You see whatever you are allergic to, food, or environmental releases histamine in your body - and all mast cells (like the cells in your bladder) become inflamed/irritated/send pain signals - etc. So the urine in your bladder at that point (which SEEMS like the problem / but is really just an irritant to the inside of the bladder lining) causes more pain etc...

...see the relationship? GET TESTED FOR ALLERGIES> THERE IS A REASON WHY MOST PEOPLE WITH IC OR IC SYMPTOMS HAVE ALLERGIES. THEY DON'T NECESSARILY HAVE IC ...AND ALLERGIES. THERE IS A HUGE CHANCE THAT THE PAIN STARTS WITH THE ALLERGY REACTION ITSELF.

...I'm getting allergy shots and am told that will take care of it all. I believe and I'm beginning to see results. GET TESTED.

------ Its not necessarily that something is wrong with your bladder.
------ You might have allergies / that are creating a domino effect in your body - a cascade of reactions that RESULT in an irritated bladder and pain.

If you have been told you do not have IC, but you have IC symptoms...get tested for allergies.

What's the catch? Well, I can't take allergy medication because it - yep irritates the bladder!!! Pretty crazy - but true. Singulair and others - could not tolerate gastrointestinally (IBS)...I'm doing the IC diet and the shots.

Okay - I'm done.
