Yes I was told I had bladder cancer, I spent 2 weeks in shear panic until my appointment with a specialist and another week until my hysdro and biopsies to find out it was IC not cancer.

:grouphug: I'm glad you don't have long to wait. Before I was diagnosed, I worried about bladder cancer too. I was actually relieved to be told it was IC.

All of my uro's have 'suspected' cancer (prior to being diagnosed w/IC) since the symptoms are very similar. Each of the uro's I've seen have sent a urinalysis out to the lab for a cytology study and even now with the IC diagnosis, my current URO does this once a year.
This worried me a bit because while I was in the middle of trying to get a diagnosis, my cousin was diagnosed with IC and bladder cancer. Fortunately her cancer was caught early and she's now cancer-free.
take care

well that is good yall didn't have cancer or ur cousin. i was reading some of those symptoms and yes they are similar. urethreal cancer scares me too and bladder cancer. i have always, had some protein & blood in urine, then it comes and goes. they said some people just like that when they have a infection. well, thank yall. please pray for me, no mater the result that i can get treatment. i sure don't want cancer. but just really worries me that i will be the one in my immediate family.

I've read that bladder/urethral cancer is EXTREMELY rare among anyone who is not at least 40 years old and who has been a smoker for at least 20 years or worked with industrial solvents known to promote bladder cancer. In other words, I would say your chances of having bladder cancer or urethral cancer, are about one in one hundred million. Your chances of having IC, however, are 1 in 4.5. Because in the U.S., 1 out of every 4.5 women has IC, researchers have found.
I hope that your doctor will be able to put together a treatment plan that will soon have you comfortable again.
Blessings,
Lori
