Am I the only one here that has other medical conditions, other than IC?

I need my vitamins. I need my food, including potassium. I need my steroid medicine.

I cannot just go on the IC diet like I used to because I need my nutrients.

How do you cope? Do you just grin and bear it and live with the pain so that you are able to get what you need for other medical conditions?

I do not just have this IC wrong with me and I need to be able to eat and to take vitamins, including iron, and meds.

What do you do?

Thanks.

Hi

I also have Endo. I am going to ask about being checked for IBS. I take children's vitamins every day. I can't answer about the steroids, but hopefully someone else can give you some insight.

I would say the majority of us here all have multiple health issues going on, lol!

I do know that you shouldn't limit your dietary potassium it's not healthy and can be dangerous - the bladder doesn't react to it like the potassium that's introduced directly to the bladder, so don't worry about avoiding that! ;)

I think I have read that quite a few ICers are able to use children's vitamins, supplements, hopefully even more will chime in with what they do as well.

I took Prednisone for months last year due to a bout of colitis and I had no problem on it with my bladder. I did just fine with it, I should say my bladder did just fine with it! LOL ;)

I made sure I ate healthfully when following the IC diet - lots of veggies, frozen and fresh; fresh meats, grilled, pan-fried, broiled, baked - chicken breasts, steaks etc; potatoes and sweet potatoes (very healthy!), pasta, olive oil, herbs, lots of scrambled eggs with Monterey Jack cheese, bagels. I didn't have to limit myself just because I couldn't eat the normal acidic-type foods - tomatoes, vinegars, etc. I made sure I got my dairy in with mozzarella cheese, cottage cheese, cream cheese in the brick, Breyers French Vanilla ice cream ;) ...

So, the only thing I think you may have problem with is the vitamin supplements, those can be tricky for us and our bladders. As I said, some I know like babygirlh1 take children's - and I am sure others will chime in with what they take as well!!!

Keep your chin up! ;)

If you need particular nutrients for more serious issues, then by all means eat. I'm sure there is some way to reorganize what you need to atleast half-way help cooperate with the IC diet..no? If you cant come up with anything on your own, I would bet that your GP or GYN knows of a dietician/nutritionist who would be more than willing to help you with dietary needs/restrictions. Dont give up! Where theres a will theres a way.

Re: vitamins--I have to take a daily multi-vitamin for ocular health. Even if it did cause me bladder discomfort, I wouldnt give it up.

take care
