Hi

I had a fall just over a week ago and hurt my neck quite badly. My doctor gave me a sample of a new NSAID called Prexige (this is what it's called in Australia). The drug is Lumiracoxib and it was to help with the neck pain while I have physio etc. Now the strangest thing has happened. My neck is still painful and I don't know if it is a coincidence or not but I have not had a single bladder symptom while I have been taking them.

I had gotten a lot of relief by going on the pill but still had flares from foods etc, the pill just seemed to shorten the duration. But on the weekend I really strayed off the food path because I was having so much fun I was willing to endure the aftermath. I drank beer and ate pepperoni pizza, I had lemon tart and a strawberry fully expecting to wake up in bladder hell and...nothing.

I guess the only way I'll find out if it is a coincidence is when I run out of the tablets and see if it all comes back.

Has anyone else taken this drug? It is a cox2 inhibitor (I've tried others before with no success). I'd be really interested in seeing if anyone else has had a similar reaction.

Anyway, for now I'm just grateful I have some respite from the bladder thing. I still have all the aches and pains of my Fibromyalgia and my neck and back are still very sore after the fall but yay, one less thing!!:woohoo:

Tickled for the success..no matter where it came from or what "caused" it.

I haven't heard of this NSAID. Is it safe for long term, including heart problems etc. that brought down vioxx, etc?

I don't know enough about the long term effects of this medication because I was only given a 2 week course but I am checking with my doctor. I looked it up on the internet and it has the same heart warnings as vioxx - do not use if you have a history of heart disease or stroke.

I will keep you posted and also to see if the subsiding of my symptoms are just a coincidence and if the symptoms come back before I finish the course or afterwards.

I just read that it is not approved for use in the U.S. until 2007! Bummer. Hope you continue to have success with it.
