Jean Fleur made me thinkabout my Hydrodistension test I had... My 1st uro did this test, yes i was knocked out, after waking up and being quite drugged up My doctor didnt tell me much about the test. She said that my urethra was very irratated and so was my bladder. But I remember her saying she wasnt sure that I had Ic. But the following week I went back to see her. She started to treat me as if I had IC. (to me i really do think I have Ic, b/c the meds are working) but should she have done a biopsy??? To be 100% positive I have IC? I just went to a new uro last week (who is awsome) and i told him my whole story. He said it sounds like I have IC and put me on different meds. He said in the future he would like to do a biopsy and hydrodistention test again to see for himself! I really dont want to go through that again but I guess I need it?? What do you all think?

Does the new urologist have your records from the first uro? If not, I suggest you ask that his office contact the other office and get them. The new doctor may want to see for himself so he knows exactly what he's dealing with. Just remember that it's your decision.
If the first doctor was helping, you may want to consider going back there?

Hi donna... My 1st uro put me elavil 20mg. She didnt know much about IC. She never sat at talked with me about it. She never answered any of my questions. She wasnt a great uro so i searched and looked for a specialist in Ic. Found one!! He's great. I do have to have all my history transfered to my new uro. Thanks for your quick response

Not only do you need your records transferred but you need to find out if a biopsy was done and get a copy of that for yourself.

Just to let you know, some Doctors will diagnose using different criteria. My understanding is that the good ones will take ALL of your symptoms, test results, and medical history into consideration. In my case, my Doctor diagnosed me without seeing Hunner's ulcers or even obvious inflammation during my cystoscopy. He said my symptoms (in my case, frequency, pain and urgency) combined with an abnormal amount of blood vessels in my bladder were enough. Some Doctor's require bleeding during Hydrodistention, others may not. I purchased the IC survival guide and found some of this information out. I believe it was in the second or third chapter. If you are happy with this new Doctor I would talk to him about your fears of having another hydrodistention done and explain your confusion about the diagnostic criteria. He should be happy to explain his criteria to you.
Hope this helps!
