I live in north tonawanda which is a little north of buffalo,ny. So our power went out on thursday night and we just got it back last night. The one thing i missed was my heating pad. It was torture without it! So i tried the pads they have for cramps. I always put the heating pad in between my legs so that didnt really do me any good. Plus ive been having a major flare for the past 2weeks. But i made it through with major tree damage, downed power lines and no heat! But we have a gas stove so we could put a match to it and go from there. We warned ppl that if they heard firestrucks that it would be us lol. And we also had hot water and i knew if i sat in the bathtub that it would help BUT it was sooo cold i couldnt be naked like that lol. But school is out the whole week! This is so weird for the beginning of october. But i really say thanks for all the help from all the other states to bring us back power! we really take for granit how we have heat and everything. People sometimes dont have those luxury items. But anywho any suggestions on how to handle a flare during a huge storm like this? like losing power and such?? Thanks for everyone and for reading my whole "story" lol.....talk to you all later!!!

Laura,

I had to deal with the no power situation for 8 days after a hurricane came through this area a couple years ago. I was suffering with the bladder issue (undiagnosed at the time) and also recovering from a hysterectomy/repairs. I remember how miserable it was around here. Instead of having to deal with the cold, we were having to deal with the heat. So I guess in those terms I cant really offer you any suggestions--however I can offer you my understanding.

hoping you feel better soon!

I guess that means I should stop complaining of the rain in Oregon! We haven't had any power outages so far this fall and with the help of a pellet stove, our house is nice and warm and dry.

I survived the Ice Storm of 98 in Montreal Quebec Canada, and let me tell you what a mess. I shivered in my bed in my apartment without heat. All I had was a flashlight. No hot water no nothing. I finally got so desperate to get clean that I jumped into the freezing cold shower. (I'm never doing that again)!!! At least I felt clean. It took forever for my hair to dry!!! Ugghh. So in a word I know what your going through, and its a ton worse when you're not feeling well. We need to create an IC emergency list for events such as these. Keep warm!!!!

I guess I won't complain too much about how cold it gets out here in Central Texas (Austin Area!). It doesn't get too cold too often but a few days here and there-- but I'm from Southern California and even after all of these years I still don't like the cold. (I pile on the blankets and stay in bed if I can.- if its a weekend or if its icy and the roads are impassable). The power usually don't go out, if it does it might be for a day or two, I don't ever remember for like you guys talk about up East. Don't know how you manage it.
