Hi folks,

I had bilateral reimplantation of the ureters in Feb 2005 to prevent reflux and was then diagnosed with a large stone in each kidney. After 7 operations my left kidney had to be removed as the ureter got blocked with stone and scarred up.
I have had constant pain when peeing since this first operation and my consultant has suggested botox of the trigone. Does anyone have any advice?

P.S My pain has been caused by the reimplantation of the ureter.

Thanks,

Stacey - Ireland

I had botox injections in the trigone area twice. It can help some with pain but not all the time. It really isn't too bad and it did help my other IC problems but not the pain. I have severe Ic and I haven't responded to any of the regular treatments or experimental. So I would say you really have nothing to lose and it has minimal if any side effects. Some bladder retention can occur but it can be help with an alpha blocker like flomax or cardura. Botox is very safe and is becoming a standard of treatment for IC. I don't know in your case if it would help but I would try it out if I were you. The one thing that I must stress is that outside the US some drs do the injections while your awake (local)but you really do need a general. Being knocked out helps and it allows you sleep it off for the next day or so. It will just make you more comfortable. You will be in pain for the first day or two but without the general you will feel alot more of the pain. The drugs they give you linger in your body and thry send you home with pain killer on top of that. I would recommend rest for the first few days., Even though you aren't being cut open it's still surgery so your body need time to heal. So plan on renting movies and sleeping with a body pillow. The body pillow really helps. I have two one to craddle my back and one to cuddle. If you need anymore adivce PM me. I've been through it all and I wish you luck with your situation

I wish I could help, but I'm not familiar with the surgery you had and I have never been treated with botox.

I did want to say that I hope you feel better very soon.

Warm healing thoughts,
