I was wondering if anyone here had a negative hydrodistention.. in other words, if the bladder capacity was within normal parameters..... I read everywhere that hydro is not a completely fool-proof diagnostic procedure for IC, yet my doctor just told me that if we do hydro and my bladder capacity is normal, that means I don't have IC for sure.... any thoughts? Thanks!

Hopefully the doctor did a biopsy. Did the biopsy say negative for IC?

I didn't have that, but there are people with IC who have a normal capacity and sometimes no glomerations etc...

There have been people diagnosed with IC and their bladder looks normal and the bladder capacity is within normal limits. I personnally did not experience that as my bladder showed IC and my capacity was low, but not every test is 100% accurate when diagnose IC. Have you had a PST (postassium sensetivity test) done? I had this done first then the cysto with hydro done after??

It used to be thought that normal bladder capacity ruled out IC, but there are some people with normal, or larger than normal, bladders who have IC. And I know of at least one person whose hydrodistention did not diagnose her IC. I suggest you ask you doctor about a potassium sensitivity test.

Like mentioned no test is 100%.
I agree with asking your Dr about doing the potassium test.

Hi Jean, I also have a normal bladder capacity. After having a positive Potassium Sensitivity Test at my Gyno's, the cystoscopy I had done by my former Uro showed a "normal bladder capacity & normal looking bladder". It was the biopsy that showed the chronic inflammation and mast cells that are indicative of IC. It's really too bad that they did not do a biopsy while in there! Like the others, I would suggest that you ask about a PST. My thoughts are with you, I know how frustrating it can be!
