Hello All,

I need help figuring all of these do's and don'ts out. I keep coming across contradictory information regarding diet. My doc gave me a very helpful chart that shows how much certain foods either increase your Alkaline Ash balance or decrease it. However, I need something a little more extenssive (I am also looking for a book that focus' on diet, I don't need a book that goes into the knitty gritty details of the disease.) I would LOVE a pocket size guide that could just fit into my purse and can go with me every where. If any of ya'll know of any books like this that I would greatly appreciate it if you would share the titles.

Best Regards,

Venefica

You have three choices...

#1 - The ICN Special Report on Diet
#2 - Confident Choices: Customizing the IC Diet
#3 - A Taste of the Good Life: A Cookbook for an IC Diet.

For ease of use and size, Confident Choice is the nearest we have to a smaller size, yet comprehensive book.

You can buy these in the ICN shop under "books on IC"

I have both Confident Choices and A Taste of the Good Life-- both are excellent and easy to refer to when you need to. Also, there are some pretty darn great recipes in there -- I've served them for dinner parties, and now my friends and colleagues think my house is a restaurant because it was so good ;)

I don't know too much about IC and diet because diet isn't a factor for me with the IC, but it is with diabetes. In diabetes a lot of us count carbs instead of calories, which is kind of a newer concept, so the books are much better than 20-30 years ago, and interestingly enough there are a lot of pocket editions. Those were my favorite before memorizing most things and getting the swing of it, and with my memory it took a while! :dizzy:

If you have a favorite version of a book, I would call the author or publisher and suggest a guide. There are almost as many people with IC as Type I Diabetes so I would think the market is there.

It will be great to look back 20-30 year from now and see all the improvements in IC care. (Not sure I will be alive for it...) There will be some huge changes and hopefully a CURE, not just treatments.

I have this book: A Taste of the Good Life: A Cookbook for an IC Diet
It's not just recipes, it also includes quite a bit of text about how we are affected by diet. Also, here is a page by the author of the book which includes quite a few recipes: http://www.ic-network.com/bev/

The diet chart on the ICN has helped me a lot for a food list: http://www.ic-network.com/handbook/diet.html#list
I keep a copy of it on my pocket pc phone for quick reference. I took just the table and put it in an html page by itself.
