After suffering with urinary symptoms for only 3 months, I was officially diagnosed with IC yesterday after a hydro/distention. The procedure was not near as awful as I anticipated. My doctor gave me pain meds through IV during surgery. I woke up in recovery with some urethral discomfort and I was immediately given a belladonna and opium suppository. I was also given pyridium. My doctor came to see me before I went home and she was surprised how bad my bladder looked because I had been feeling much better since following the diet and adding Prelief. The pictures looked awful. She said that I have moderate IC. She wants to start weekly rescue instills beginning next week and she wrote a prescription for Elmiron but she wants me to hold off on beginning that until we see the response I have to the instills. She said that some women go into a nice long remission after a two month series of instills and then we'll know whether or not that treatment works for me. If we start the Elmiron at the same time, we won't truly know which if the more helpful treatment. I was just sooooo upset when I saw the pictures. Is it really possible to get better when your bladder looks so bad? I was praying for mild IC, now I feel like I have less of a chance of getting better. Any thoughts? Thanks!
