Hi,
Today my GYN pretty much told what I have suspected for a few years that she pretty much thinks I have I IC.

Along with telling me this she too told me I need to do something about my weight. (gulp)

I am very short. I'm 5' 1". Years ago after my first daughter I lost over 50pds doing Weight Watchers. I ate tons of fruit and diet food, plus I exercised. Then one day while doing a workout I got a lot of pain my bladder. Not long after that I started having tons of awful IC symptoms. Then they went away for awhile till last year.

I've also put all the weight I lost back on. This along with having 2 more kids.

My question is HOW in the world can I plan to lose weight when I can't eat much fruit, veggies, diet food is a huge NO NO for me that causes TONS of bladder pain.

How in the world can I work out??? I am sure that bouncing around will hurt my bladder even when I am not having a flare up. Is this possible???

I have no idea on how the go about losing this weight. How can I when at the times the bladder pain puts me in bed, sinus pills I have to take make me loopy & my bladder pain pills well they make me dizzy too.

HELP!

Hi Ashley,
I have also had trouble with my weight. It is hard with IC.
When I was pretty sick, I just did mild yoga & some short walks. Even though it doesn't seem like much, it at least will maintain some muscle strength & prevent deterioration. Now that I have found treatments that work (listed under my signature), I can do 50 minutes of cardio at the gym (elliptical trainer with low resistance and rowing machine) & can hike an hour if the terrain isn't rough. I can also do stretching & light weights. I got a referral to physical therapy & the physical therapist gave me a program to do at home.

The diet? Yeah, I hear you. Most veggies are ok (no tomatoes, no onions, asparagus or avocados). I do try to watch the fat content of what I eat, though it is very hard.

Maybe the first step is to stop gaining, then to move towards a very slow weight loss.... That's how I handled it. My weight shot up pretty fast when I increased my Elavil. But, I first worked on not gaining any more, then I lost about 10 pounds, but got stuck there. So, now I am working on getting into the best shape I can at this weight, and will try to lose more very slowly...

You might check out www.sparkpeople.com It's a free diet website and I found it pretty helpful.

You are definitely not alone with this problem. You will probably get more commiseration posts than advice ones, but try to stay positive. I believe that we can lose the weight, it just may take more time, patience, & effort than for most people.
