I know that my Urologist said that I shouldn't have a hard time conceving on my IC med's but the Internal Medican DR. had somthing diffrent to say...

I've been trying to have a baby for 15 months now... and after 12 months of no luck. I went to see my OB/GYN who orderd blood work... both times it came back that I had a ligh level of prolactin... (the same as if I was nursing)
The second that I said I was taking Amitriptyline, he said ahhh.. and pulled out his little palm computer & looked it up... and yup prolonged use of Amitriptynline can lead to high levels of prolactin = no ovulation because with high prolactin my body thought i was already prego....

So I'm going to stop taking the Amitriptyline (for now) and have more blood work done in a few weeks......

I called my uro... & left him a message letting him know.... so I guess I'll see what happends...

And that med was one that I liked taking because it also helps me sleep... and my IC has been doing well for the past few months.

I just had to rant & rave... I just got home... and it's all that's on my mind.

i didn't know that drug would cause high prolactin. there are other factors that can cause it as well. if it's still high after being off the drug for a while, then investigate the other things (your dr can tell you what they are).

hope you are able to find something else that helps for IC but doesn't affect fertility.

good luck!
