Hi. All I'm Dave. I'm a 24 year old college student recently diagnosed with IC. I eat a lot of fruits and vegetables and drink lots of teas. I have drastically altered my diet to conform and I have noticed progression. Does anyone know of any good herbal teas besides celestial seasonings peppermint. Also, what fruits can I get away with. I love gala apples; they see to do ok with my body as well. Thanks for your help guys. Peace
Dave

Hi Dave-
Check out the IC Handbook and Diet, it has all teh IC safe foods (though everyone is different) and trial new fruits, lots tolerate blueberries, pears, gala apples, so you have to play with it!
Check out the IC diet message board too.
SOrry about your IC, I get it- it stinks but you will hopefully find a regamin that works for you!

Hi Dave - I did well with just hot lemon water, or splurged on international cafe's vanilla creme when I wanted something hot. All the teas seemed to bother me. Although I'm painfree now, I still avoid coffee, but I've been able to tolerate some teas...especially that red "zinger" tea.
Fruits - I ate blueberries (wash and keep them frozen for a mini popsicle treat!), pears (I make the BEST ic friendly salad with them), bananas, apples, and watermelon. Honeydews are okay, too, but I don't really care for them.
Veggies - anything except asparagus and onions.
If you are interested in my salad recipe, let me know and I'll repost it. Most of my family and friends are addicted to it now!

Some people enjoy drinking just hot water with some honey stirred in. I can drink several herbal teas. I recently bought some Rooibos and it seems to be okay for me. Teecino is also usually IC safe and comes in different flavors.
The main things I have to avoid are coffee, except if it's low acid, anything citrus (even in minute amounts), and tea.

Dave: Try mixing 4 tablespoons of Honey and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon in 3 cups of water and bring to a rapid boil. It is different, but it does taste good. Of course you have to like cinnamon. lol
I have also tried the New Folgers Decaf/simply smooth coffee. I crush 1tablet of Prelief to a cup. I haven't had any problems with it. But everything is a gamble. Good Luck!!

Hey Dave,
I know what it feels like to feel like you're too young for IC. I have had my problems since I was twelve or thirteen (I'm 22 now) and no one knew what it was until recently--everyone thought I was outside my mind. Changing my diet has been the hardest thing about this, because before I found out about it, all I ate was acidic fruits. I can't STAND the frozen section, and it seems like everything has spices or cheese or something else that makes me flare up. Good luck with everything, and if you need another young newbie to vent to, just give me a shout. It's frusterating as hell to be in your primse and so severely restricted.

Hi Dave!
I have found the gingerbread spice tea is very good. the IC shop sells it I think during the holidays. It took me a while to discover I really like that tea I think it grows on you! I have bought some on the celestial seasonings website. I want it all year round now!
Here is also my plug for the pear bars--love them! I am still working on this diet thing also. my family & friends are very helpful, they will make sure they set food aside for me before they add stuff i can't have. Good luck!

Hi Dave-
Just a little additional fluffing, I am redoing the diet and find by really just realizing I will find a mix for me, It is feeling less depressing this time and I think the bladder is a little happier.
Hang in there and realize that if the diet gives you some empowerment over this disease, take it, since the disease has its own little ideas!
Hugs
