I must confess that there is nothing more relaxing to me, especially during the cold evenings of fall and winter, to sit by a fire with my cat in my lap with a warm cup of something in my hand. Up through last fall, I was zealously enjoying a cup of Instant Cafe Mocha, produced by Safeway, because my bladder was in very good shape. I also figured that if I diluted it enough, it wouldn't bother my bladder.

I must confess that it slowly but surely aggravated not only my IC but also my IBS until last December when I said to my doctor "I feel as if all the nerves in my pelvis have been turned on." Out went the cafe mocha... and in came peppermint tea which works like a dream to help calm the bowel. But now that we're having cold evenings again, I miss that warm, chocolate colored beverage... until now!

My sister Janice happened to found a carob powder a few months ago and, over this last weekend, I was finally able to make up my own instant IC friendly beverage that has a nice chocolaty flavor. I'd like to share my recipe with you all the hope that you all can add to it.

Ingredients:
Carob Powder (1/4 cup)
Sugar (1/4 cup ... more or less... to taste)
Non-Dairy Creamer (1/2 cup)
Pinch of Cinnamon or any other spice that strikes your fancy.

Mix thoroughly and store in a tight tupperware container.

To make your mug of hot satisfaction, dissolve 2-3 tablespoons of carob mixture in a cup of boiling water. Stir for about a minute to help the carob dissolve. Top, if you wish, with cinnamon or whip cream!

It comes out a nice, rich dark brown, very chocolaty in flavor... and I like it! Right now I'm using a 2:1 ratio of creamer to carob... but I think it can be even less. You can also adjust the sugar to your taste level. I like thinks a little sweet!

I'm anxious to hear your thoughts and ideas! You can buy the carob powder in our shop now... and it ships really easily! http://www.icnshop.com
