do overactive bladder patients pee at night? PFD patients usually don't.
do overacitve bladder patients ever have retention....I thought that was PFD? but my current research says that PFD patients don't normally go at night.....do OAB patients do so....my thought is that if a patient is going at night and has retention she has both weak and tight.....and maybe the IC is not in full remission....but I don't trust an OAB diagnosis if there is retention....(THIS IS NOT ABOUT ME!!) Thanks all!
Hmm, what if a patient has 2 conditions? I have IC and PFD and nocturia has been a serious problem for me, though currently under control (thank God!)...

I have been diagnoised with urge and frequency (surgery took care of stress inc).
I pee at night but if I get up more than 3 times or less than 90 min apart I know it is time for an IC treatment

I have IC and pfd... I also have the stim. I have een getting up 2 to 4 times a night to pee lately, its either A) time for a reprogram its been 2 years.. or B) the amount of stress that I am under...
I would suspect if you did have overactive bladder you would get up to pee in the night, as we icers do..
Having rention is common wwith ic, but I don't know is it would be for someone with an over active bladder...

I was treated for overactive bladder with Detrol and it did not solve the frequency problem. It reduced the flow to basically nothing

My MIL was DX with O.A.B. she goes two to four times at night. I guess it just depends on the patient, and if they have other health problems or not?

I would think OAB patients go at night b/c frequency is usually one of their main symptoms, but I'm not sure.

Kim,
that is what my mother in law said. She kept telling me over and over that OAB was what was wrong with me before I was dx. She kept telling me to try this try that. When in deed my problem was IC with hunner's not OAB.
When she is stressed out or her anx. level is up. She goes even more. She doesn't have any type of pain with her's Just the feeling she had to go go go.

I have terrible problems with urinary retention. I do self catherization and have, at times very high residuals, but I still have frequency too. I go to the restroom usually every 15 minutes to 1/2 hour sometimes. My bladder just doesn't empty out completely most of the time. A lot of that may be medications that I am on that cause retention and definately stress. I get up several times to go to the restroom at night. I drink a lot of water for my IC and my mouth stays dry from meds - so if I don't get up to pee at night - on those rare times that I don't get up, by morning, after I do urinate, I am in terrible, terrible pain.

I have IC and PFD with night time frequency. Usually 4-6 times a night. Early on in my diagnois doctors tried to treat like it was OAB but I never responded to the treatments used. Eventually I was diagnoised with IC not OAB.

I have both IC, PFD, get up anywhere from 2-3 times a night. No fun, specially when you can't get back to sleep and have to go to work the next morning.

I was first diagnosed with OB because during the day I would sometimes get a fit of pees where I would go two or three times after drinking a liter of water. I was peeing about twice during the night or once every four hours.
Then I started getting up three times a night and then four, but during the day I went every 4 hours. I was diagnosed with IC and placed on Elmiron, Elavil (which dont help night peeing) and I am going to ask about Atarax which I heard helps some people.
I also started snoring and my doctor suggested that when I wake up to pee I ask myself it this is due to bladder pain or pressure or a just in case? He mentioned this because he said I could also have a case of sleep apnea along with it that is also waking me up? I am working on this now.
OB meds did not stop the night peeing. I wish I knew what would? I am now stopping fluids at 4:00 PM.

I used to go once or twice a night, but Elavil has helped. I rarely get up at night now... usually only if I have a lot of water close to bed time.
