ouestions about pregnancy and IC

Hi all,
I have been really curious about IC and pregnancy. I have had IC for about nine years with periods of remmsions and then the all so life altering flairs. I have been able to manage having IC with diet, Evail, Elmiron, and exersice. I live a fairly normal life, except when a flair hits me and then life as I know it changes dramatically. Recently it seems as though it has gotten worse, but I think I can attribute that to starting a new job and the stresses that go along with that. I know that stress is a BIG trigger for me. I was wondering how hard pregnancy is going to be on me and how any of you dealt with it? Did any of you go into remmsion, or did your IC get worse or stay the same? Did you have to go off your meds? Getting married soon and know that I would like a family, just worried that it will kill my bladder and I'll have a nightmare of a pregnancy. Please share any stories.

Hi, I can't help too much as I have never been pregnant but I am trying to get pregnant. My obg/yn had me go off of all meds except hydrocodone and I have to keep that to a minimum. Of course I take pre-natal vitamens as well.
Hoped this helped a little with the meds question.

I wasn't treated for my IC when I was pregnant 22 years ago...I had DMSO treatments 9 years before that with no luck and it would be another 9 years before I tried DMSO again.....I had lived with IC almost 20 years by that time and I was so used to it. I know that sounds strange but it's true...I was used to always feeling like I had to pee REALLY REALLY bad...that's just the way it was every single and and night..seems to me that I just peed more as the baby got bigger, which is normal anyways, but I don't remember having any extra problems or feelings with the IC even though I had no type of treatment..

I am only seven weeks pregnant, but when I found out I was pregnant, I quit taking Elmiron and hydroxyzine (the only meds I was on). I have had a few MINOR flares, but nothing major. I thought once I went off my meds it would be bad news, but thankfully I am doing well.

I was coincidentally in a remission just before I conceived, and was fine throughout the pregnancy and beyond.......for eight years! The only time I had flares in those eight years was while taking decongestants once during a sinus infection, and once when I drank lots of alcohol due to fear of flying! Other than that, nothing. I felt some twinges after childbirth, too.

During that nine year period, I felt like I had some "force" protecting me from the IC pain, and that force, I see now, was hormones. When I entered perimenopause, the IC pain came back.

Thanks for your post, it puts a smile on my face to hear that pregnancy was not so bad for you. I hope that I am as lucky.

I am now about 6 weeks pregnant and have had alot of pain. Also very fatigued and have had alot of nausea. I feel like I have been really sick now for a month even my sinuses are out of control. I just have been taking it easy and taking alot of naps.

i'm sorry your in pain....i had a pregnancy loss over the summer and with that pregnancy my IC bothered me b/c i wasn't getting enough fluids....my OBGYN put me on home IV fluids and it didn't help much with the morning sickness is did help my bladder a ton b/c it was getting fluids into me that i couldn't get in orally (i threw up everything...even WATER!)

so drink a ton of water.....it will really help keep things flushed out and make you feel better :hi:

i have had ic for about 3 1-2 or 4 years, and i have been married for almost 2 years after 2 years of trying, i had a spurt of luck. after knowin' i was preganant for 2 weeks i started bleeding, got a bladder infection and had a misscarrage, and had to get a DNC. this was saturday, for the DNC, but on top of hurting with my bladder, i am so hurt emotionally, me and my husband are willing to try as soon as we can, but has anyone who has had IC had this happen, please help me someone... i am so lost and nobobdy seems to have an answer...

I was in remission when I got pregnant and it acted up a few times but nothing terrible BUT I leaked urine like nothing else... I was at my husbands birthday party and I started laughing really hard and just peed all over hte floor! luckily it was at a game place and it was carpeted and i was wearing a long skirt so nobody noticed the pee dripping down my legs lol... it was nasty though! :bonk:

i had a D&C over the summer and it messed with my period BAD!!!

but once my cycle got back in tune my IC settled back down.

with my last pregnancy, I went into remission after the first four months. The first four months were kind of bad, but not terrible. I have been in remission ever since, and am planning on getting pregnant again soon!

I hope your pregnancy is just as easy. Or easier!
