Hey everyone in the IC world-

I am flaring bad...I'm in nursing school and this is our last week before we go out on our internship so it is exam week and I CAN'T MAKE IT TO SCHOOL. I am so bad I sit on the toilet hours at a time, because I have had the urge to go 24/7. I talked to my uro, but as usual he can do nothing for me. I have been talking my elmiron and elavil faithfully for the 2 yrs I have been on it. I hate it because whenever an important event comes up I flare and IT IS MAKING MY LIFE MISERABLE. The only reason I can even type this right now is the fact I am sitting on the heating pad. Also, I have been poppin prelief like it's candy and guzzling down water like I don't know what. I'm all out of ideas someone please help me I need to make it to school or else they will fail me. Isn't that ironic? I'm in the nursing field they know I have IC yet they do not care why I miss school unless I'm in the hospital I need to go to school they say. That is crazy! SOMEONE HELP ME!!!!!!:headbang:

I'm so sorry for your pain. Stress always gets my pain level way up there, too. I have taken my heating pad with me to places before. That certainly always get me a funny look. I wish I had some magical advic for you, but I don't. Just wanted you to know that someone was thinking about you and wishing for you to have a pain free day.

I understand how you feel, I am flaring badly right now, too! If heat helps you, you might want to try some "portable" heat. The "bed buddy" comes in various sizes and I often take mine in my car. You heat it up in the microwave so the heat does go away eventually, but it really helps in the car. Also, you can get those disposable heat pads. I have stuck them right to my underwear (on the outside) and it's really helped me get through some bad days when I had to be up and around. Sometimes heat is the only thing that gives me any relief at all. When you are home, a hot bath is helpful, since, as my doctor said, the water can get places that a heating pad can't. Good luck, I hope you feel better soon!

I say grab an extension cord and take it to school. I take mine wherever I go. Friends hse, vacation. Heat is very relaxing maybe that'll help you get through your last week. I heard there is a plug you can buy to put in your lighter socket in the car that converts to a plug in. I'm going to try that out. I also have heated seats. I will never own another car without them. There awesome!!!

Go to the emergency room for treatment, if your uro won't step up to the plate. In the emergency room tell them how bad things really are and maybe they will admit you to the hospital or give you a treatment of some sort. This might either get you thru school or give you an excuse to miss it.

I would get an new uro and see if they work better, then get my records from the old one and fire him/her.

I hope you find an answer because suffering isn't fun,

(((((VA)))))) I am so sorry you are suffering like this. Stress is my HUGE trigger. One of my worst. Try to take is easy. I agree, a trip to the ER or your uro may help. Make sure you don't have an infection. Maybe get you some pain meds to help you thru this flare. Have you tried "rescue instillations?"

STress will do it. I know someone asked me once when there was a job opening will I take it, I told them no, and "they said why its more money-- I told them its too stressful and besides I have my Avon on the side that helps out and my doctors told me I DON'T NEED THE STRESS!! so I sit at my job and do what I do. I realize I will never get rich, but working for the State, you don't. You work for the people.

You got some good advice, take your heating pad you with, I have one at work all the time, sometimes I get looks but people don't say anything, they just go away and mind their own business. Also go find another doctor who knows more about and believes in IC. It might take sometime, but its worth it.
Good luck on your exams.
