Read a study today; IC Update for Clinicians by Dr. John Warren, MD. which stated that Amitriptyline helped 63% of patients in study when dose was titrated upward from 25 Mg to 100 MG. In other words if the 25 mg didnt work for you, they raised it slowly up the scale to a top of 100 mg at which point 63% of everyone using it was helped. So if you are not getting results on lower dose, try a little higher.
Elmiron had a 30% success rate in one study and 50% in another. Again it seemed if three a day didnt do much, 4 a day was better.
cyclosporine A had a 75% success rate but had to be used by an expert as has side effects that are unpleasant and maybe dangerous.
Hydroxazine had a 31% success rate in one study and another with no difference from placebo.

Hello,

I was wondering if you could share where you found the article? My uro was very sceptical of one of the meds you mentioned. I'd like to show it to her.

Thanks!

I read mine on Medscape which is a subscription journal scan board. I would think you could find the article at PubMED or just put the title and author in ask.com or google and see if it dont bring you to it? There have been several studies that were similar that I have read, so you should be able to turn up one of them.

Interesting because I've been deliberating over taking the Elavil that has been sitting on my counter since I picked it up last Feb because I'm terrified of side effects, but with that info. it sounds like I should give it a try!!

elavil made me mean and I gained weight rapidly.. only because I didn't know when to quit eating.. it will be a struggle if it makes you hungry all the time.. Some paients do quite well on it and it dose help the pain...
Elmiron is a gret med, it helps replace the gag layer around the bladder, to give it more elasticity.. it takes 6 to 8 months to get the full affects.. some people tolerate it well, where assome get side affects and severe headaches. you can try to dump the med out of the capsel to see if it helps, as for me it still gave me headaches.
hydroxzine is my med of choice.. I take 75 mg at night.. I haven't been able to afford it for a couple months and my bladder is ****** off about it :biglaugh: but it is getting refilled on the 3rd.. thank goodness...

If I remeber correctly, I am willing to say your description is pretty accurate.

thanks for the refresh :)
