View Full Version : just saw Dr. Moldwin
I jsut saw Dr. Moldwin, he had a cancellation. He is 90% sure I do not have IC. He couldnt examine me properly because my vaginal pain was so severe and he said my muscles kept spasming. He feels i have vulvodynia which he said also could be causing the severe pelvic pain I am feeling. He also suspects pelvic floor dysfunction. He put me on valium 3x a day to help relax the muscles and wants me to come back in 4 weeks for another evaluation. I also have to take two baths a day with sea salt and topical lidocaine. In the mean time he recommended me to a well respected gyn where i live. I called this gyn and he cant see me until .. get this .. nov 27. I cant wait that long. the pain is driving me crazy. I called Dr. Moldwins office on friday to see if he could recommend anyone else, but he was out until monday.
I have to say with all the doctors i have been bouncing around seeing, he is the only one who seemed to make sense and the most professional. He is the most caring and kindest doctor I have ever seen. He did not take my insurance, but the 450 i had to pay him was well worth it.
Does anyone know a good gyn in the stonybrook area of long island that may be familiar with treating pelvic pain and vulvodynia?
Dr. Moldwin is probably the best if not one of the best IC doctors. The money you spent was a good investment in your health and one you probably won't come toi regret. I would follow Dr. Moldwin's instructions exactly. It is hard to take two 20 minutes baths a day, but stick with it.
It is interesting to hear that he recommended sea salt because it used to be aveeno powder in the bath. I assume the lidocaine is appliied after the bath and not in the water. He also used to send people to PT, but I heard he was tending to not send everyone with PFD to PT right away.
It is hard to find PTs and gyms who know pelvic pain, so make sure you go to a person Dr. Moldwin knows. I traveled to see Dr. Moldwin from the Midwest twice and (2001 and 2005), and probably need to go again for possible new treatments/discoveries. It was a mess trying to find a PT and Dr. Moldwin had to guide me once I came back home. The first one hurt me more than helped (yes, I know PFD PT hurts at first, but this PT didn't know what she was doing.) That is why it is probably best to stick with Dr. Moldwin's network of treatment providers he knows.
I wish you the best and quick relief, but please hang in and be patient.

I am currently in physical thereapy treatment for PFD, too. I'm trying to hit this IC thing from all angles early on. I was just diagnosed yesterday but knew something was wrong before then, so I asked my PT that I see for back pain about this bladder thing, and she suggested coming in to be tested. They have a sensor that you stick up in your vagina and they can read your pelvic floor strength from the computer hooked up to the sensors. I've only been once so far, but go again on Thursday. She feels that in 6 weeks I should be feeling a lot better. So far all she's given me to do is keagle exercises, but she also does some sort of electro stimulation in the vagina. I have vulvadynia, too, so that was painful. I'm not sure I'll go all 6 weeks. It just depends on if I feel like it's helping or not. I have noticed that the warm baths do help a lot, too, but it's hard to take the time out of your day to sit in water and do nothing. I went to the gyn yesterday and he knew nothing to help with the pelvic floor dysfunction, and in fact didn't even test to see if I had it! He just wanted to make sure nothing was wrong with my ovaries, and then had me take a test and he scored it, and said I have IC. I'm still going to see my uro on the 10th of Oct., and maybe I'll know more then. It would be great if all I have is PFD and not IC! But I don't think that will be the case, unfortunately.

did he give you valium vaginally or orally. just wondering cuz i am having valium vaginally and am having a lot of problems with it irritating my vulva and getting yeast infections because of the moisture that it is leaving behind. i am taking a strong priobiobitc and am on nystatin and was on diflucan..
how many milligrams of valium is he gvining you and is it reallly helping relax the pelvic floor .. it makes sense and i know he is one of the BEST i was thinking of going to him for an evaluation. i have a hard time becasue i have severe ic and have to go just about every 20 mints.. i am basically housebound.. i tried everything.. wondering hw many miligrams he has you taking of the valium and how often thanks so much for any info you can give me.. and also how do u apply the lidocaine thanks?

I am glad you got to see Dr Moldwin and that he ad some helpful ideas for you and I hope that they work out. From what you said I suspec he is right that you Vulvodynia and PFD. I hope that with propper treatment you are doing a lot better.
I agree that it can be very hard to take two 20 minute baths everyday....but I do consider the baths to be an important part of my treatment.
