Hey all,
I was wondering if anyone else had a problem with bleeding post-partum? I bled for 6 weeks post-partum (normal, right?). Actually it was regular bleeding that stopped, then turned into a period. And since, I've had some trouble with bleeding. Since July, I have bled a total of 2 months or so. I had the Depo Shot to control it, but it's not helping. So I'm not due for another shot until November and in the mean time I am supposed to wear my Ortho Evra patch in conjunction!
This is so crazy. Everytime I turn around I'm getting cramps and I start a heavy, clotty flow. (TMI?) I'm constantly in contact with my gyn who is kind of stumped. My OB moved to Montana so I can't get her insight to this. I am really sick of bleeding. I have gone through so many packages of pads, and I'll say this, you ladies ought to buy stock in Always at this point! My hubby KNOWS now when it starts and then I hear a sympathetic, "Again?"
I am just so FRUSTRATED!!!! Two types of birth control and it's not even doing the trick. The doctor thinks I just don't do well with the hormones of b.c. No duh! It wreaks havoc on my bladder for one thing...but what else can I do. Hubby's going in for a vasectomy in the next month or two, and before anyone starts, I've heard it a million times before (you're so young, you have so many childbearing years ahead of you, etc.) yes we know, but I'm apparently allergic to b.c. or something and it is making my bladder a living HELL--got it?
Excuse the PMS in this post...but if you got your period for about 2 months you'd be crabby too!!!
Anyway--am I alooone here or is this a typical post-partum thing, even though I'm nearly 7 months P.P. AHHH!!!
TIA...oh and if you need me, follow the trail of Hershey's wrappers...

It's been a lot of years and I hadn't thought of it for ages, but I couldn't take birth control pills because they made me have periods every two or three weeks at the most. Gosh, that was over 30 years ago.

Some people bleed alot with the very first depo shot, then stop after the second one. Let your Dr know just to be sure

(((Jess))),
Yikes, sorry, it just seems to be one thing after another. :shake: I will try to get in touch with you later.
My last attempt at BC (in an effort to control heavy periods), actually did the same for me and I bled longer than ever, for weeks on end. I was much older, so it could have been a perimenopause issue.
My first thought here is to wonder if it is possible for your hormones to get really out of whack after a deliver/section. I mean, possible to be abnormal and yet possible for a long time. I would be very concerned about any anemia, hope you are getting your hematocrit checked.
I would love to hear from any nurses on board, that might have an opinion here.
As for the other matter, I know that this has been a really hard time since Issybelle has been born and you guys have lots on your mind...please try not to make any life changing decisions right now. I am not harping, but there are other ways to use BC, and I would hate you to make an emotional decision. There is a reason my kids are 5 years apart. ;) Please hang in there, I will buzz ya later, okay?:kissing:

First nurse reporting for duty--I had whacked out bleeding after I delivered Lindsey and took the Depo shot at the hospital before I left. I understand the crampy clotty thing because with the large clots as they exited I had cramps so bad I thought I was in labor again. I also had endo and don't know quite how much that contributed. I agree that it is probably a hormone issue and since I had PCOS(you do also, right?) I think that because the body is so crazy hormonally that the normal quick fixes don't work. Please let me know if I can help you in anyway, k Jess?
Hugs,
Barb:)

I don't have any advice for you, but I hope things get better for you soon! I think the constant bleeding/cramps would drive me nuts too.

I'm not a mom but I do have hormonal issues that no one can figure out. I have PCOS and possible endometriosis. My periods are irregular, sometimes I have heavy bleeding with clots for a month. I have tried every birth control pill under the sun and none of them helped with the bleeding or cramps. My urogynecologist recommended Lupron over Depro Provera because of the IC, PCOS, and endo. He said Lupron was my best bet. If Depo isn't working well consider asking your doctor about Lupron.

Birth control pills did the same exact thing to me! I tried 14 different kinds and all of them caused me to bleed through. I did have endometriosis but I don't know if that was why the pills didn't work. I tried the patches, depo shots - everything and all of it cause this horrid break through bleeding with tons of clots, a lot of blood and the use of more pads than you could imagine. I used to have to double up the pads side by side one on top of the other at night just to keep from bleeding through to the bed.
This doesn't really help your problem but I just wanted you to know that you are not alone. I ended up with a hysterectomy from the damage from the endo.

Hi :) I bled heavily for 6 weeks after the birth of my second child, like a 6 week period!! I didn't have any birth control, I was exclusively breastfeeding her. My advice would be to guage your bleeding, is it heavier after you are very active (carrying laundry up and down the stairs, running around after the kids, etc...). If so, you may need to force yourself to take it easy for awhile so your uterus can truly heal.
The next thing I would do would be to tell your OB you want a THOROUGH exam to make sure you aren't retaining any placental fragments. This happened to my sister, she just did not stop bleeding, and they found that there were tiny fragments left, which caused her to constantly bleed. They had to do a D&C. Good luck, and remember to rest as much as humanly possible.

I may have missed it but that was my thought also, to ask if you are breastfeeding or not. I didn't have a period until about 9 mos (promptly got pregnant silly me). I didn't start having uncontrollable bleeding until my last child (3rd) was about 3-4. Was diagnosed with endometriosis and PCOS adn ended up with hysterectomy at age 37. Then things got really bad.:bonk: :loco:

My first thought was that you may have some placenta fragments still in the uterus? Watch the Depo or Lupron shots as they can really cause an IC flare. If it were me I would try another doctor and get a second opinion, you cant live your life bleeding like that. Did you ever have fibroids or endometriosis?

i just had a baby 8 weeks ago. I bled for a month and then had a weird on off period....I too suffered alot with the pain in my bladder from the postpartum bleeding etc.
I hope you get better, and me too!!! I'm still having cramps and I'm not even bleeding.
