I have been reading that a lot of you all are taking Benadryl for your IC. I discussed this option with my Uro's nurse and she told me that Benadryl can cause some problems. The thing is, it is one of a few drugs the can actually cross the blood bran barrier (bbb), which is designed to "protect" the brain from harmful substances, etc. Anyhow, taken for an extended period of time (varying due to age) can cause you to have a constant groggieness that doesn't let up. If taken consistantly for extended periods, this could potentially be harmful to the brain. She did tell me though that other antihistamines do not cause this and do not cross the bbb. This is just what I was told, you should contact your md if you have question on it or before you alter your own routine. I just wanted to put this out there for each of you! Hope this helps!
