 Oh my god I am so worried and don't know what to do. Ok so I got an IUD in July. Had bad cramping so I got it removed just like a week or so ago. I was worried I had PID, which can lead to infertility and yikes (more chronic pelvic pain). So I actually went to like 3 docs and they didnt think I had PID cause my uterus wasnt sensitive on examination.....but diagnosing PID is actually pretty inaccurate the only way to know for sure is through a laproscopy. Anyway the cultures sent out by one doc were fine.
But the cultures I just got from last week were positive for Ureaplasma! :-( Which my doc said can be transmitted sexually. And I read that it can cause urinary symptoms.....so I dunno if I've had a ragging infection for like 2-3 years which has caused my "interstitial cystitis" or this is new. And I don't know if I had or currently have PID...which could mean I can never have a baby. :shake: I wish I had never gotten that IUD....although now it is good to know I had a ureaplasma infection and get that treated. But I read somewhere that it could be hard to treat if you've had the infection for years.....so this could be the cause of all my probs and I might need years of antibotic treatment....which no traditonal doc would agree to. :( I think theres a real posibility of me going insane. :loco:

I had ureaplasma too and I was freaked out about it and really upset and thought it was the cause of all my urinary symptoms. It does cause symptoms for some however it wasn't the cause of my symptoms. It didn't take me years to treat. I took a few months of antibiotics. I too read it can take years to treat but just wanted to reassure you that is not always the case! Good luck. Hope it works out for you!

hello.
just wanted to let you know that last year i went to europe....a month after i came home...i had symptoms of a UTI. i went to the gyno and had a pap as well as a urine culture. i ended up having ureaplasma. i was devastated as i was also told it was sexually transmitted. however....i tested negative 6 months prior and had NOT been with anyone in between. i talked to the urologist (i had to go see him because after the ureaplasma...i had a uti even though that didn't show at first) and he said that ureaplasma is in everyone's body but occasionally it "grows" out of control so it can be transmitted but you can also just "get it". i thought back to my trip to europe and i did sit in a wet bathing suit which is the only thing i can think of that i did wrong. anyway....after all this...i developed symptoms of IC....6 months later i had a cysto and was diagnosed with IC. it's been very frustrating and depressing... mostly because they have no clue how this happened (this was the first infection i've ever had) or how to treat it for the most part. i hope this helps to give you some comfort as i had pretty much the same symptoms. oh yeah...during that time i was CONVINCED i had PID. i made 2 different doctors give me a pelvic. haha. when i had my cysto....they did a lap too to rule out endo (and PID). keep your head up and hang in there!!!

Thanks for responding everyone! Yeah I just read that a lot of people have ureaplasma...I'm kinda suprised my gyno would give me antibotics for it if it's so common. She gave me a week of antibotics to take then I am supposed to come back to the office and get retested to see if the antibotics got rid of it. I don't know if it could be the cause of all my bladder probs but I guess not :-( I just hope I feel ok once I get off the antibotics and that I didn't have PID or anything.....kinda hard to tell whats going on down there with my bladder hurting and all.

there is some controversary about treating a positive ureaplasma culture. however if there is an "overgrowth" doctors will give you meds (usually a zpak i believe now). i've had bladder problems every since i had my positive test. i did have a 5 month symptom free period though. i swore i had PID when all of that first began! if you continue to have problems....i'd definitely go for more tests (have you had a cysto?). you'll be able to sleep at night just knowing what it is! good luck! keep us posted. :)
