One on October 3rd with a counselor, one on October 19th with a psychiatrist (they both work in the same place.)
I hate waiting, but waiting a month is a piece of cake compared to waiting seven months for an appointment for my son, which is what I had to do several years ago!

7 months? They made you wait that long to see a counselor? That is insane?
I am really happy that you are going to talk with someone. It has helped me quite a bit already. There are times I have left and felt that we haven't accomplished alot but I feel better just getting some things off my chest. There are other times that I feel like I have leapt over a mountain :woohoo:
I hope that you have good progress and feel very good about going!

No, no, no . . . :-) The "seven months" reference was to an appointment my son had. He had to wait seven months to be evaluated for autism. Compared to that, me waiting a month to see a counselor is a piece of cake.

So is your son autistic?
I have a brother who has severe autism.

Yes, my son has autism. He's in second grade now; has some language skills (mostly to ask for what he wants), can read a little bit and do a little bit of basic math. Academically he's only a year behind where he "should" be. I think that's pretty good considering all he has to deal with.
Armslee, how old is your brother?

He is definitely doing better than I was when I was in second grade.
I was reading beyond college level when I was in 6th grade, but I couldn't do math at all. :(
I didn't talk much, either. Still can't do the math, and talking is difficult but I can do it these days. Gotten a few A's in college but have yet to get a college degree. Too busy with autism advocacy.
Check out my site. It may help you with your son.

It has been a very long time since I posted here, and I was pleasantly surprised to find Thomas' answer to my long-ago post.
My husband and I just started with a counselor that specializes in special needs children. The major problem is finding a sitter for the time period that we have.
We went through two months of total hell trying to get Matthew's Medicaid reapproved. It finally was about two weeks ago.
I've put the bladder on the back burner for right now to try and address two other problems I've been having. One, I had surgery for sleep apnea back in June. I'm also tring to exercise more and learning to eat better.
Two, I'm having chiropractic treatment for my upper back. Bending over a computer and a court reporting machine has taken its toll.
In addition, I had two root canals done this year. And I see the dentist again on Friday for a regular cleaning.
My son is still picking up words. One of the funnier things he picked up was going around and yelling, "Ooga booga booga!" The desired response is, "Aaaahhh!"
Thought I'd drop in and reply to your very kind posts!
