Is this the book everyone is saying to buy before applying for disability?

Ginny,

It's not a book, it's a packet of info from the "other" IC website (ichelp.com). You can find it at https://www.ichelp.org/store/shop.cgi?CustomerID=228386460&page=Topic08.html

It's called "ICA Personalized Disability Packet" and the Item Number is DISPER. The packet costs $23 for non-members and $20 for members. I used it when filing my own claim and found it very helpful. The ichelp.com site can give you all the details on what it contains. Good Luck!

I looked at the packet for disability and also saw the other papers written on disability on the same page.
Anyone know which is better for me to buy? I am still working but don't know how much longer I can continue especially because I was just diagnosed with a carcinoid tumor and need to go through more biopsies.

The one that I got is called "ICA Personalized Disability Packet" and the Item Number is DISPER. The packet costs $23 for non-members and $20 for members.

I liked it b/c it has a personalized letter (addressed to whom ever you 'd like and with your name in it) that explains why IC is disabling and how it qualifies as a disability by SSA's rules. There's also some other very informative IC info that makes it easy for the person reviewing your case to figure out how to "classify" your illnesses according to SSA's rules. It was definately worth it to me. I didn't have an attorney and ended up winning my appeal in front of an ALJ. The kit helped to set me on the right track when I originally applied.
Just a friendly piece of advice...if you're even considering applying, do it NOW. Each day that you wait is money that you could be forfeiting if your approved. The ALJ in my case dated my approval back nearly 5 years (to my surprise), but since I waited to apply, SSA only paid my back $$ as far back as one year before I applied. So, that was just $$ that could have just as easily been flushed down the toliet! :toilet:
