I just joined the forum yesterday, and I read the previous post on lower back and hip pain, and thought, "Hey, there are people that go through what I go through every day." I'll give you a bit of history: I am 20 years old, I was diagnosed at 17, I also have osteoporosis, and was recently diagnosed hypothyroid, and honestly I can't deal with this by myself anymore. And that is why I am here. I have a ton of other symptoms also, and I was wondering if anyone shared any of my other symptoms. For starters, I, too, have lower back and hip pain, as well as severe pelvic pain; only mine radiates down both legs and is sometimes accompanied by tingling and numbness. Also, this may sound weird, but sometimes my skin feels like it hurts, kind of tender or something, I don't really know how to explain it, but when I tell people that they look at me like I'm nuts. Oh, the pain becomes excruciating for 5 to 7 days before I start my period.
I often have bouts of nausea, although I rarely vomit, and diarrhea; I have headaches almost every day, no, I take that back, I have headaches everyday. I can't remember the last time I haven't had a headache. I constantly have shoulder and neck pain, sometimes I get short of breath, and my sleep patterns are rather ridiculous. My joints always hurt, and a few months ago I started seeing these little flashy things sometimes. The only thing is that I haven't really had this checked out because I feel like a hypochondriac.
I don't really see my urologist anymore because I felt like nothing he did helped, not to mention the fact that he told me there was nothing else he could do for me, and that I was out of options. So I started seeing an internist who uses lots of vitamins in his practice, which are administered through an IV. So I do see him once a week, so if there was anything very urgent I can talk to him, but like I said I feel like a hypochondriac!
I'm sure I've left something out, but you get the idea. I just don't know what to do anymore. If anyone has any of these symptoms, or just suggestions, or comments, I would really appreciate it. I hope all this makes sense. I'm just so confused!

I'm very sorry you have IC and other problems along with it. It can make it difficult to know just which disease is causing a particular problem.

Have you found the Patient Handbook? It's at http://www.ic-network.com/handbook and has a wealth of information. Are you following an IC diet?

Have you been evaluated for malnutrition? Several of your symptoms might point in that direction. It's very important to be on a balanced diet, especially with health problems.

Sending warm healing thoughts,
Donna

Hi, Thank you for responding. Yes, I do follow an IC diet and as far as malnutrition goes, I eat very healthy, well proportioned meals. Also, the IV therapy that I recieve, is consists of 50g Vitamin C, trace elements, b6 b12, b3, magnesium sulfate (i think thats it), and a million other things that I can't remember. I have been feeling a lot better since I have been seeing this doctor, I'm just very overwhelmed right now. I mean to tell you the truth, I think I'm pretty well nourised. Who knows though! Alot of the symptoms also point to different autoimmune diseases, and already hypothyroid, it just kinda makes me wonder if something else might be going on. It could all be from the IC though, because I know a lot of people have very random symptoms with it. I just wish I knew exactly what was causing what. I think just with that I'd feel 50 times better.

Hi,

I am new to this board, but not new to IC. I am sorry you are having a bad time. Have you ever seen a rheumatologist? Some of your symptoms sound like Fibromyalgia--a related illness of IC. The headaches, disturbed sleep patterns, joint pain, even the sensitivity to light....(I have Fibro myself) as well as hypothyroidism and a bunch of other stuff. I don't suggest you start self-diagnosing, but a rheumatologist could evaluate you based on the joint pain and eliminate or confirm any of the illnesses in his or her area of expertise. You might also want to read about some of the related illnesses on this site. They are very informative and might give you an idea of how to proceed. I hope you get some answers soon. Feel Better!

Vitamin C can be a problem for some ICers. You might talk with your doctor about trying the IV without that one.
