Hi everyone!

I am leaving on my trip to the Cape on Friday and for the past 3 weeks have been tying to get ahold of this out of control yeast infection. The first week I used two round of Diflucan 4 days apart. The 2nd week I used Clotrimazole and Bethamethasone Diproprionate Cream USP. The 3rd week which brings us to the end of yesterday, after being cultured and seen by my OBGYN, when the culture came back as yeast they gave me Terconazole 0.4% internal, vaginal cream for the use of 7 days. I used it for 5. With ALL of the creams it seems as if they are burning off a layer of skin or severely irritating it even more. The creams are making it worse to the point that my vaginal lips (includng the ones surrounding the urethra are swollen shut) and my anal hole burns like someone poured acid onto it. I can not wipe any part of that anatomy down there that is how sore and irritated it is. I just called again to my OBGYN's nurse and told her that these creams were just making matters worse and that I would be leaving on Friday so if they wanted to see me again that they would need to let me know. She asked me if I had tried Lotrimin cream and I said that I did not know if in the past I had ever tried that. All I DO know is that every time I try a cream, it burns my skin and also itches like crazy. She is going to call me back later today and see what the doctor (mine is out of the office today) says. I just wanted to have a good trip but it's real hard when you want to rip your skin off literally and you constanty feel the need to itch between your legs. How sophisticated is that? Plus I just want to FEEL better and this has been going on for 3 weeks with the help of my OBGYN.

I'm also having feelings of urgency along with all of this burning going on down there. Does anyone else have this problem? If so does anyone have any reccomendations? Keep in mind the creams over the counter and prescrption strength are out of the question.....

Thanks for your compassion in this itchy situation!

HUGS!

Hella Kara,
I have used difulcan under the watch of my physician and the pink tablets -- not sure of the doseage.

He had me take one a day for 7 - 14 days, then one every other day for the total of 7 more tablets. That sounds like a huge amount, but I had systemic yeast and it knocked it out of me -- I don't get vaginal yeast infections __ knock on wood__ so I don't know how it would work for that -- but it is worth asking! I also use the ascidopholis during the entire time -- it is the stuff that you get in the fridge section at the health food store and helps to add the good bacteria back to the body -- that is possibly thrown out of whack right now for you???

Consider a warm (not hot) bath and relaxing and then you won't have to wash the area off with a cloth -- you can just use your hand after sitting in the water for a while and hopefully get the creams off your skin -- hope that is helpful --- it sounds like your skin is just over stimulated from all the creams.. Be sure that you are able to clean it off completely -- moving everything around to be sure that you get that cream out of creases etc.... because if it is like many creams, it doesn't just wipe off easily -- you may have more than one thing on your skin at the same time -- that could cause a lot of irritation too..

HUGS, and hope you get this under control and have a wonderful trip up to the Cape! Wish I was going! -- I would love to see photos when you return... I have ALWAYS wanted to go there!!!

I hope you can try the diflucan

I've already tried Difulcan but I am not sure they gave me enough to knock it out of the park.

Thanks for the advice.

Stupidly I just took some acidophilus and realzed I am highly allergic to it because it's main ingredient is wheat and I have Celiac Disease. I hope I don't end up in the hospital. GOD I COULD SMACK MYSELF!

Kara, I think you should call your Dr. immediately to find out what to do since you forgot and took something you are allergic to! You are right, this could be very serious! They may order something to "clean you out" or they may have you come in and give you a shot, or if it was in the last few minutes they may tell you to go gag yourself to throw it up! I honestly have no idea, but I do know that you definately need to call about that right now! Love, Amy

When you have a yeast infection I would avoid baths completely since you want to stay as dry as possible. I would also choose cold over heat since yeast like warm moist places.
If your case is bad and you have tried Diflucan you may want oral Nystatin. The link I gave you has many more ideas. I love having a strong probiotic around.

It doesn't suprise me at all that you don't respond well to creams. A lot of people around here don't.

I hope you can find a probiotic that doesn't have anything in it you are allergic too...boy that must be tough:grouphug:

Thinking about you and saying a prayer! Hope you feel better soon!!

I talked to the nurse and they are prescrbing me Diflucan at it's highest dose two times a day for the next 3 days. They said to stay away from warm anything to use cold and to keep as dry as possible and to use No more of the creams they prescribed to me. As far as the wheat. I have to have a celiac attack in order for the stuff to get out of my system and it comes out real fast!

Thanks for your help in this matter.

Oh Kara!!
Poor girl!! I wish I could make it go away!! I know you said no creams but have you tried good ole corterizone cream (I know I spelled that wrong ). I have also used diaper rash ointment ( zinc oxide ) like Desitin. Vagisil has a new cream that has a numbing effect, maybe that would help! I also us gold bond powder. It has a cooling sensation, which may seem like a little burning but it helps me. Just some ideas

The doctors office is not RX the Diflucan properly for a severe, stubborn yeast infection such as yours. You should have had a culture to make sure it was Candida Albicans (there are many types of Candida), then you should have the RX for the three days followed by a lower dose of probably two weeks of one 200 mg every three days.
I dont know why some of these offices are so reluctant to RX sufficient doses and duration of Diflucan. You would think you were asking for Heroin.
If they are worried about liver enzymes they could check in a month to see if any elevation has occured, which rarely, rarely happens in a healthy person.
With yeast medications a simple infections will take two 200 mg tablests, three days apart. If you get a re-occurance then you have to prolong the medication time or if the infection correlates with period, then you may have to take one 150 mg tablet before period for a few months as a preventite
My doctor had to switch me to Nystatin for a month or two before I finally got a handle on a stubborn infection.
I am happy to say I have not had an infection now for 6 months. I religiously take my plain, Greek yogurt along with Inulin and Threelac daily.

i've heard but this is weird that you can put yorgurt directly on it and their are some yorgurts that dont have citric acid just skimmed milk and cream and live active cultures. you might try that.

Kara, I don't have any advice for you, but I hope you find something soon that will help you and give you some comfort.
